Natural Sound is having a "Massive two day sale" at RIM park, 10am to 5pm, Saturday Sept 27 and Sunday Sept 28.
The are selling Rogers HD-PVR for $299.99 with NO EXTRA PURCHASE NECESSARY. It doesn't say limited quantities, but it does say it is a show promotion only and "cannot be repeated".

Great deal I guess for Waterloo residents who don't want to bug Rogers retention for free rentals..
<Sigh>
I guess we can't get all the deals here in the centre of the universe (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=639266), after all.. ;)

Actually the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics here in Waterloo has conclusively determined that Toronto is NOT the centre of the universe. However, Torontonians are not buying the theory.

Goooood luck...
"This is a show promotion. Two days only. Cannot be repeated."
I think there is a clause in most PM policies that will let them wiggle out of this one...

How does this work? I'm thinking about picking this up as a Christmas gift. We already have HD cable. If I were to buy this box now, should I just be able to call up Rogers and activate it come December? Also, I assume there are no additional monthly fees.

That will work fine. Might even save you money if you currently pay to rent a box.

Does it work with a HD satellite tv receiver?

Nice job, Raff!!!
I wasn't so lucky. The staff at Future Shop at Yonge and Eglinton here in Toronto did their due diligence and found out that this store isn't an authorized retailer. No PM for me!

Glad someone was able to PM FS. I tried the FS at the Stockyards in Toronto and was turned down because the manager said the sale hasn't actually started and the store is in KW.

Futureshop's price match policy doesn't say anything about geographical restrictions. They should still honour it if that's the reason they're giving.
As for the fact that the sale starts tomorrow, just tell them you'd like to pay full price today and will return to adjust it tomorrow. They'll probably just PM it there and then, and save someone the hassle of doing it tomorrow. That's what I was planning to do at least!
So where exactly is the Futureshop you went to audit13? Where are the stockyards?

I picked up one in Waterloo today. It's an HD 8300 model.
They should be out of stock now, but they were telling everyone at the event that they will continue to take purchases today and tommorrow during the event, however, you will have to go back and pick up the unit at a later date when more shipments arrive.

Haha yeah I don't blame ya! I never understood the demand for owning PVRs though! Wouldn't it be better just to rent, in case something goes wrong you can just exchange for a new one, yeah?

Renting is $25/month. So in a year you would have paid $300, the price you can purchase it for in this deal.
Renting is the most expensive product protection plan there is.

I printed off the ad from the Waterloo store and went to the Futureshop on Merivale (in Ottawa). After talking briefly with his manager, the sales agent sold me a PVR for $300 plus tax. I don't think he even called the other store...though I'd written their phone number down for him, just in case he did.
Thanks so much Raff and OP.

Unless the rent is free. To be honest I was there today (long line up eh?) and decided not to buy. I have had a free rental for the past 2 years and it expires this Dec. I recently got a second HD PVR from rogers for free rental. I like 2 :cheesygri
Just need to call in and try to get the first one renewed.

Thanks "dollar"...I wish I'd thought of that while I was there. I'll go back tomorrow to see if I can get my $22 plus tax credited!
Any idea if 2001 Audio Video is an authorized seller? (I'm not quite sure what is meant by that...when I called Rogers they said they only had standing arrangements with BestBuy, FS and the Source...but if you know, please let me know).

It is not at the store. The flyer was for the KW's Finest Sale occuring at RIM Park (a sports arena); a mini home show.
