Just visited the store and they gave me a coupon. It says from Sept. 25th to Sept. 30, I can get a great deal on Mac.

This is what they gave me on the coupon:

Buy a Mac (Mac Mini exclusive), and the first 20 customers can get a free Microsoft Windows XP Home and Parallels desktop 3.0 :cheesygri but not including the installation. However, this deal is in-store only and I asked if I can ship it to other provinces(for my friend), their reply was that my friend can call and they will help. :cheesygri

By rough calculation, i can save about $200 on a Mac. I think it's a great deal. Let me dig the coupon out and i will update this post.

I don't get this
Buy a mac and they give you windows xp?
It's like buying a petro car and they give you free diesel.

Yes, they told me all the new Macs are based on Intel CPU and you can run Windows on top of it. That's why they give out free copies of Parallels Desktop and Windows XP for their "Switch to Mac" promotion events.

Well, I am not really a Mac guy, so if I happened to get a Mac, I prefer to use Windows as well. It's not a bad idea tho.:cheesygri

Yea, boot camp works, but I don't wanna reboot every time I want to switch between two different systems. I thin parallels is a good choice. Of course, it will use more CPU; but everything has both sides. LOL

They want to clear out stocks before the update. Apple are updating all their computer in october. Macbook / Macbook pro / iMac. Big hardware update with possibly new ddr3, new cpu, led display for the macbook (that's what rumors say).

If you can wait 2-3 weeks before buying, then you should wait for the update. It will be worth it.

Maybe it's just me but I think it's kinda cold. Running XP on Mac isn't that great an offer unless you're a diehard M$ user.....and there's nothing wrong with OSX. I do agree to the "petro & diesel" theory at some point. Hardly a HOT Mac deal. They're too overpriced.

And what's the point? A PC can also run Windows and OSX you don't have to get ripped off by Steve Jobs.

they aren't overpriced at all.
if you look at the cpu alone. compare that to any dell or HP.
nothing comes close.
and when you look at the operating system. what you save on time and security features. ie. adware, firewall etc.
the mac stacks up pretty tall compared to the price of a pc laptop.

How about this? Try to run everything there and once there is Apple update and you run the update from the "Software update" and you don't have problem? And, is your "Mac OSX on PC" going to stand firm against the software copyright issue? Enough said, I prefer getting a real Mac just not putting myself into troubles.

I don't think so. Yea, I heard that Macbook and Macbook Pro are gonna be refresh, but I don't think the iMac is. And their deals are for all Mac except Mac mini. So I guess it's great for me since I just wanted to have an iMac to replace my old celeron desktop.:cheesygri

True. I prefer boot camp because a) its included with all macs and b) you dont lose any CPU performance, where as like you said Parallel it takes away a lot of cpu power. I guess its ok for simple things like older games and word processing etc, but for more intensive games its better to run on bootcamp

I use both, but I like OS X way more, its more intuitive, and easier to use, nicer interface, list goes on. But its useful to have access to both xp and os x.

thats ignorant. it can be argued that microsoft is a rip off. Most PCs are built very ******, especially cheaper ones. Not to mention windows is riddled with viruses, security breaches, etc.

Not as ignorant as the helpful "duh. it's called bootcamp" response someone made earlier.

Of course a cheap PC isn't going to have the same sort of hardware quality, that's why it's cheaper. However, if you pay more you generally get a better machine. Better yet, build your own, and if you don't like Windows you can put Linux on it.

I'd never buy a Mac because they insist on tightly controlling the hardware. All the excuses they want to make about it, it's just about money and really nothing more. Why can't I build my own computer and buy their OS separately? It's a scam, and an outdated business model that died in the consumer world years ago.

A modified BSD with pretty UI, why would I want to pay a penny for it? I have loads of choices for unix-based systems for free. Convenient? They don't even ship it with basic compilers. Why do I have to download the stupid x-code thingy just so that I can compile few lines of code. And the only reason why windows is riddled with viruses is because majority of the people use windows. I wouldn't say windows is riddled with security breaches compared to unix systems, because unix is used more often as servers. My G5 at work has a broken dvd-rom, does that mean it's crappy as well? Oh right, I forgot, a Mac is just a PC.

Flame on

Somewhat true, but part of the stability of OSX is due to the fact that they don't have to support everything under the sun... I'm a 20 year PC veteran who just switched to OSX because Vista sucks too much and I wanted a change. So far the experience is great, but you still need to have Windows around for the plethora of applications that aren't available on OSX. Boot camp with Parallels or VMware Fusion is a great solution. Best of both worlds...

But admittedly a bit pricey. I hope that next month they release a new desktop system in the 1500$ range without everything built-in like an iMac :)

That is what they want you to believe but it runs just as well on normal hardware. Apple essentially uses the same hardware as every one else does so the chip sets are supported it is usually just a matter of editing a .plist file to add a PC ID to it then the hardware is used when running on a normal PC. Now you have to fool the OS into thinking it is running on a Mac but that is easy to do.

Could always use VirtualBox too.

Yep they might even get my money for something like that, doubt it happen though...

All the Apple dealer Mac is make for order direct from Apple Canada. I do not think it is clearing out the old stock. And it is really awesome deal for a Mac. I dont recall any aggressive promo like this. Thumbs up for Compu2000r to come up with a promo that try to convince people to switch to Mac.

How come there isnt such promo for Mac users to switch to PC.

I am a PC!
