Hi All,

I am in the market for a new suit and I was looking at getting something done MTM. I am a pretty big guy and off the rack while may fit (48R) does require quite a bit of altering. Im 5'7 225lbs and was looking to making the jump to MTM. Am I crazy thinking that I could get something done for $500? I just had a child so I need to be a little realistic in my budget.

I was in Buffalo last weekend and I could have picked up a Hugo Boss for $400 and then I would have had to get some alterations done so Im sure it would have came in around the $500 mark but it still wouldnt be MTM.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've posted a list of tailors in Toronto previously so do a search for names. The cheapest you're likely to find is, when on sale, around $800. That's for a rather basic cloth, 2 piece MTM.

If you are willing to take a risk, there are many asian tailors (e.g. maxwells) who visit Toronto and will do a suit for cheap (~500). Note though that there's no fittings, but most are very good at making changes afterwards (but you are responsible for shipping etc). The downside is it'll likely take 2-3 suits made before they get it down pat.

Otherwise, at that price range, I'd say a well made OTR taken to a tailor will likely be sufficient.

Is that 2pieces or 1?

That's 2 pieces: jacket and pants
