Hi!
just wanted to share what happened to my evo x last friday morning.
i was going to my doctors appoinment friday morning for check up on my chicken pox. im going westbound 401 from meadowvale. no traffic when i go to the 401, then after morningside the traffic start to slowdown. before i reach neilson on the fastlane the traffic is so heavy that i really need to stop my car. when i stop my car suddenly i was hit from my back. i was hit by a rav 4 and this rav 4 was hit by a ford car. its like a chain reaction, both the rav 4 and ford was towed since my car still driveable the police told to drive. its a good thing i didnt hit the car in front of me cause i stepping on the brake. but right now i feel pain on my left shoulder and a little bit on my lower back. and my wife her neck, left shoulder and her back after the accident. we already have a check and doctor told us observed this weeekend.
i just came from the dealership and they estimated the cost to be $4700.00 just for what they saw outside of the car. im still waiting for the adjustor to call me.
just to let you know that when the accident happen mileage on the car is less than 300 km cause i just it get last week before i had the chicken pox so basically the car is just sitting on my garage for the whole week.
i never been in accident so any advice you can gave me, ill really appreciate it.

i have same question that stressing me out.
1. since my car still brand new now that i have an accident i know the value of the car will go down. my question is can i get anything from the insurance for the depreciation of my car due to the accident?
2. for the injury my doctor and nurse from work told me that i wont feel anything yet for now, cause im worried about the long term cause of the accident specially for me that i work in factory that required heavy lifting. my question is how long before the insurance closes the the claims for the injury?

for now that only my questions.

1. Insurance company will pay for the repairs. I would be surprised if any insurance policy out there will pay for depreciation.

2. For now just make sure you inform your insurance about the problems you are experiencing with your body so it's on the record. The time limit for filing a claim on damages to your CAR is 1 year, but I am not sure what the limit is for bodily injuries.

I believe there is a minimum thresold before you can sue for personal injury damages in Ontario? However your insurance should have to pay for any medical extras like Chiropractors, Physio, and even massage Therapists.... I am sure others can and will chime in the length of time you can claim for damages though.

You have 10 years to claim for your injuries (accident benefits) from the insurance company but you have to prove to the insurance company that it was direct result of the accident. If you have gone to your doctor/hospital they should have noted it down that after the accident on friday, you suffer this and that.

1) It's worth a look ICBC has Depreciation coverage for brand new vehicles (less than 3 years old) but it is an extra coverage option. So you would most likely have known if you opted for it if it was available.

If your car is written off you are given an extra cheque to compensate you for depreciation. The threshold for writeoff is also lower (50%) compared to the normal 75% - 90%. If your car can be repaired it will only be done with brand new OEM parts from the manufacturer of yoru car with the coverage.

Sounds like you braked late and since your car was so new and brakes so good you didn't hit the guy in front but the cars behind didn't have the same stopping power as your evo and hit you.

Did you have your headrests adjusted properly? Was there a lot of whiplash. I have never been rear ended but I think having the headrest adjusted properly is key to not sustaining injury.

wow, under 300km and gets rear ended... I feel for you!

It's definately not your fault but I find that a lot of people who drive cars with good brakes tend to brake later. All it takes is an unsuspecting driver behind you with bad brakes and you're toast.

I always worry when I drive my beater.... it takes quite a while to slow down so I have to keep a good gap between myself and the car in front.

i didnt brake late cause the rav 4 behind me is already stopped when she was hit from the rear by the ford.

its a recaro seat so there no headrest to be adjusted.

As for depreciation with your car, I know I may get flamed for this, and go ahead to everybody who wants to, you car is already depreciating CRAZY fast even without the accident.

If I remember correctly, cars like Evo's, Sti's, S2000's, all go down quick. Something like an S2000 would drop from 50k, new from dealership, to about 35k or so for a 1-2 year old car.

Anyways, with that out of the way, I hope you are okay, and I hope you do not have any serious injuries. Also, best of luck with repairs on your Evo! And if all else fails, just mod it xP

When I was reared end the guy that hit me his insurance company paid my wife $30,000 for a settlement. It was 4 years ago and it was over whiplash and some bruising but she hasn't felt more pain since the accident.. It was about 3 months after the accident that the pain was less then just stopped, but she was made to go to Physio and Massage Therapists 2 twice a week for over 2 months then the settlement was offered.

I think the costs are coming from the trunk being bent. Because thats metal and the bumpers arn't so its easier to fix bumpers than it is to fix trunk lids.

The problem with car companies now is that even a slow collision will usually cost big $$$$. Do insurance companies charge more for cars that have poor crash ratings?

That's really unfortunate. Less than 300km, that completely sucks. Hope you get better OP.

That's bad...look at the trunk alignment with the quarter panel...it's misaligned. I wonder if there's rear quarter panel crumple that you can't really see? I hope it's just the trunk that crumpled.

One thing I usually do is if I know there's going to be a sudden stop (you usually can tell with experience e.g. your driving on the highway much like the OP) and you see that your approaching some red lights fast..you know the car way ahead of you is fully stopped so I start braking and put on my hazards to let the person behind me know to to not tail me and i'm going to stop FAST.

actually i cant close my trunk cause the bumper was pushed in. anyway i already drop off the car to dealership and they are just waiting for the appraiser from statefarm. dealership told me that they need to replace trunk, tail lights, bumper and rear diffuser and probably some internal parts behind the bumper.

Not necessarily true.

I have had two "slow" collisions recently: I accelerated into a stopped car and the same happened to me. In both cases, my Fusion and the other 1) Matrix and 2) Volvo S40 had no noticeable damage. My license plate is severely dented otherwise only a small scratch on the front and rear bumper...you can only see them if you get on your hands and knees and look close.

I was actually impressed on how little damage there was considering there was quite a jolt (i.e sore for days afterwards) in both instances.

If it was "quite a jolt" and you claim you were sore for days afterwards, I'd bet your re-bars are slighty bent. Damage is not limited to what can be seen by the eye.

The Evo should easily cost 4-6 grand to fix. Pray there's no frame damage on it.

I feel for you, Evo X is a sick car, would love to get one if I could afford it.

Regarding depreciation, are you worried because you want to re-sell later? Otherwise, if it's a lease, and you fix it up properly, it shouldn't affect your end of lease return.

As for insurance, there are options you can buy to protect against depreciation for a few years on a brand new vehicle. But I think this only applies if you car is stolen or total loss (touch wood). They would pay you back the full price of the vehicle.

Was looked immediately afterwards at the dealer and there was no structural damage...
