I have been looking for a good washer dryer set for around the 1500 dollar mark for a couple weeks, I have yet to see a decent sale.

Will the big stores deal if you make them an offer?

Why not try it and find out for yourself?

You won't know unless you try.

Can't say about an appliance, but I picked up a dining set for $875 (taxes in, shipped) from the Brick the other day. It was priced at $1299 ( + tax/shipping)

Did not take much haggling with the sales agent, just asked him what the best he could do was. He responded with "what do you want to pay?" Before I could reply with $1000, he said $800. Caught me off guard, but hey, I'll take it

Edit: I also went right before closing time on a Tuesday night, if that makes any difference. Must have been a slow day i'm guessing

Yuppers! They always do, or walk because Sears will!

Good to know.....try buying at your local Home Shows, the fall ones should be starting now (Toronto is this weekend)

I saved about $900 delivered on my washer and dryer at the spring home show.

they have a special on shipping $99 anywhere in Canada, BTW, you don't have to pay PST when you by from Smartbuy

You can haggle on the price with any of the big stores, but most people don't know this or don't bother. I have never paid sticker price on any big ticket items. Not only can you talk them down in price, but you may also be able to get extras thrown in (for example, a duvet and bed sheets on a bedroom set). Try it - you may be pleasantly surprised.

Just bought this set from Sears (http://www.thebrick.com/Application/Cart/BuyRoom.asp?TraderID=34DC92B9-3DBD-438F-AA0B-BD0F699D5896&Code=LGLDY14&ProductID=A49308BB-26EC-47A2-B3A5-DA894AF8C030&Code=4DC7638E-CAC7-47B9-A331-887F2BCEFEC5&SellOrderId=4DC7638E-CAC7-47B9-A331-887F2BCEFEC5&CategoryID=3AD10C98-BC8E-4498-B1E4-44F5A85C3422&SiteCode=EN&CategoryTracking=A75A4A7B%2D600D%2D4DE0%2D9080%2DC 1B8ABC12F8A%2C4AF643D5%2D8155%2D4FA6%2DB646%2DCC80 351BE5A8%2C3AD10C98%2DBC8E%2D4498%2DB1E4%2D44F5A85 C3422) for 1400 plus we got a 50 dollar rebate so in total around 13 something. Very good deal consdering we got about 400 off. Its easy just find the set you want to get and start price matching stores against each other, they will eventually stop dealing and set a firm price then just pick the place thats the cheapest. A little bit of time dealing will save you hundereds.

Look up reviews online.. http://www.epinions.com/Whirlpool_GHW9200GR_Washing_Machines/display_~reviews

As above, almost anystore will haggle the price. We've received huge discounts from Futureshop and The Brick. Sears is more of a price match place when it come to appliances.

I have never paid the asking price on any big ticket item since I started buying stuff for my first apartment over 30 years ago. Tv's, stereos, VCRs, washer/dryers, stoves etc. I've walked when they wouldn't budge and I 've had salespeople from FutureShop come running out to my car to finally accept my offer before I drove off because they thought I was bluffing. Never bluff, you will ALWAYS get what you want for less elsewhere within reason of course. Maybe not the same day but if you keep looking around you'll always get a better deal somewhere from someone.

I forgot to mention what else to do above... Have the cash you're offering right in your hand and lay it down as a take it or leave it. If you don't have the cash try a credit card.

Futureshop definitely deal. When we bought a freezer last year, the salesperson knocked off $50 without me even asking. I got another $50 off after this.

Excellent advice. My old man taught me this one years ago when we were buying a set of golf clubs. If they don't crumble once you play this card, forget about it and move onto the next place.

Thanks for the help.

Picked up the Whirlpool Set 9200SQ with pedestals from the brick.

All in with 5 years extended warranty and delivery and taxes came to $2339.14

I think this is a pretty good deal since the price they have on the web for this set without Tax, Extra Warrenty, delivery is $2859.88

Plus I get 50 bucks rebate from Hydro.

My father recently bought a top of the line washer/dryer, fridge, & oven from FS and managed to get over $800 off, the washer/dryer and oven were even on sale.
