i just purchased a Samsung DVD-1080P upconverting DVD player that plays everything including DivX and MPEG-4. Well, the upscaling looks great on my 46 inch Sharp Aquos, but the problem is, I would like to burn some high def DivX files onto a DVD and play it.

this is the one i bought:

When they list MPEG-4 and DivX, does that mean i can play any of those files, no matter how large or if it's high def or not? I also have some .mkv files.. I doubt this player will allow such.

If it's been encoded with DivX, then it will play. It doesn't matter that the original file was HD or not.

I don't know about this one but I tried a divx encoded video larger than 480p vertical resolution on my Philips DVP5982 and it didn't work at all. Gave me an error about unsupported resolution.

Unfortunately most of todays HD content online comes in MKV files.

Some players cannot handle high bitrates.
