Hi there. I have a Dell Dimension Windows XP machine. It supports dual DDR memory and is currently running 2x256MB. I would like to upgrade to 1GB. I did a scan on crucial.com and it says I'm running PC3200 and all the compatible upgrades it shows are PC3200. I see a PC2700 DDR 1GB memory unit on Ebay that I want to get, would it work on my computer? What would be the problems?
Thanks.

Check your current sticks and see what they are rated at. Then buy the same speed at a higher capacity.
PC2700 vs PC3200 isn't a huge difference, but your ram will run at the speed of the slowest stick.

what do you mean? I plan to remove my current two sticks and then install the new 1GB in a single slot for the time being. It would work right? I'm not gonna run a PC3200 and PC2700 together at once, I just don't know if PC2700 memory is gonna work on a computer that currently runs PC3200

Why not just put in the 1GB alongside the 2x256MB modules?

How will I do that? Doesn't my computer only support 2? And there's already 2 in there that are 256MB each. So I have to take one out to put the 1GB in, and IDK if the 1GB would go well with a 256MB.. that would be kinda pointless so I don't mind just having a 1GB by itself.
I just want to know if my computer can run the PC2700. Maybe it's such a stupid question you guys are thinking there is more to it than what I'm asking
