So which one do I get? I need something with WiFi so I can sit down anywhere with it and use it. The Touch is appealing since I can get rid of my Nano and just have the Touch as my mp3 player too. The Netbook is obviously more powerful, but is it worth paying the premium? The Touch would probably be the 16GB one, while the netbook I like the most right now is the Asus Eee 1000h or MSI Wind (price drop soon?).

Yeah, I've debated about this one too. Considering a 32GB ipod touch is roughly in the same price range as a 8GB Dell mini, it all boils down on how you will use it. Ipod touch is more portable considering its size and you don't have to boot up Windows which takes time. You can listen to music easily while on the bus or walking to work. On the other hand, with a netbook, you can browse the internet or write up documents with a dedicated keyboard. So, it depends on what you will be using it for.

Anyway, hopefully Apple releases the Macbook Touch (http://gizmodo.com/5027706/rumor-macbook-touch-coming-in-october) in the near future.

If you will be doing any sort of writing then the netbook would be a easy choise.

If all you plan on doing is listen to music and browse a few web pages(maybe post on some forums) then the touch is good enough.

i think you should get the netbook and keep your nano so you get to browse the internet + listen to music

I use Safari on my GF's iphone once in a while for times when I don't have a computer and really it's not something you'd want to use for long periods of time. By far the best browser on a phone but still too small and have to zoom in/out all the time.

I'd get both. each for their intended purposes. I have a really tiny Zen mp3 player for music. Acer Aspire One for computing.

If you only intend to listen to music, browse the web, read and write email messages, and take occasional notes, than iPod is enough. You will also find that you are taking it with you more often than if it was a laptop since you can just put it in your pocket.

If you also need to create more elaborate long documents, laptop will be much better, although the small things like Eee are not quite perfect for that. I personally find them not a significant enough improvement to justify carrying something that large. Then again, if you always travel with a backpack anyway then it might make more sense.

Think I'm gonna spring for the iPod touch for now. Netbooks are bound to drop in price especially after the dual core Atoms get released, so waiting for them to drop in price is probably the better choice at this point.
This leads to the next question: a 32 GB first-gen refurb Touch for $339 or a 16 GB second-gen Touch brand new for $329?
