What can I say:
1) The T5xxx CPU's are old technology.
2) Gaming on a laptop? Give yer head a shake
3) 17" isn't exactly very portable. Not something I'd wanna haul around..
4) Most relatively recent Nvidia hardware has a design defect that will cause premature failure of the chips. Don't buy any laptop Nvidia graphics unless you're sure your particular chip is unaffected.
5) I have a fingerprint scanner on my (business) Dell. Its a gimmick that quickly wears off as the software support just isn't very good for it. I really wish I didn't have it, actually..
Other than that... if it looks good, is reasonably reliable, etc., then that's not a bad price. But really, before you buy yourself a laptop, you gotta ask yourself, "why"? The only thing 17" laptops are good for, IMHO, are sitting at home on your desk, but if that's the case, then why don't you just buy a desktop with a nice big LCD instead?

That's a decent laptop for the price. But I'd put XP on it though. Not sure gaming will be that fun though.
One question though, Are you going to carry it around?? Then I agree with pitz about the 17". Even my 15" Toshiba screen is a hassle.
Buy a cheap netbook for school, and a nice gaming desktop, as Laptops suck for gaming.

Yeah you could, easily... Just watch for the Dell Deals that are on RFD from time to time. $800 gets you a decent machine with a 19" or even 22" LCD which will be substantially faster than that laptop.
But as I, and another poster pointed out, you have to determine your priorities. Do you need a machine for portability, or do you need something that you can plunk on yer desk and play video games? $700-$800 isn't really a lot of money to be working with when it comes to laptops.
