Futureshop $179.99

Goto Canadian tire and price match it. They will give you back $18 back in Canadian tire money. Its 10% of the lower price and not 10% of the difference. Its their policy

179.99 - 18.00CTM = 161.99

NOTE This is the wide screen model. I already have it. I love it but no T2S, Blue tooth or MP3 play back. But I don't need that stuff

12V Car charger and window mount comes in the box. The computer USB cable I had for my MP3 player worked to connect it to the PC. The USB port on my computer does not charge the unit. Only charges in the car.

I downloaded all sorts of custom POI (points of interests) for it. All FS, BB, and staples locations in Ontario for price matching...ha!

You can update the firmware and maps over the web. I did. Not sure how often. I did it once (for free) when I got it. Garmin sent me an email stating the are new map updates for $80.

This GPS is great. Got one for my father. Comes with a free upgrade to North American maps (City Navigator 2009) and I also loaded some European maps on it for their trip.

As for charging, it comes with the car charger. You can also just plug in into your computer. Or else you could also buy something like this :

Definitely, get this adapter because when you travel, you might not have your laptop to charge and always have to use the car to charge it up. This is a good price for the adapter as it goes for about $20+ at Futureshop or $8+ at Factory Direct.

At time of posting, BB still has it @ $179.99. (But 0 in stock; not sure if the CT folks will catch that.) Excellent post though for additional savings.

I got one of these on Boxing Day and I love it. It doesn't have the bells and whistles like MP3 player, Bluetooth, Traffic updates (US), Text-to-speech street names but whatever. I have an iPod, I don't need a handsfree, the traffic doesn't work in Canada and I don't need it mispronouncing street names when it already prompts me to turn X at the appropriate time.

The widescreen is a bonus. You can charge the battery by hooking up to the USB/mini-USB cable to your computer too. I don't need an AC adapter.

Isn't the CT Money for next purchase, or can you use it right at that moment? Otherwise, it's just 179.99, and get 18 off your next purchase of something.

Sorry, My wife bought it on boxing day.

My friend bought it. He was looking for a GPS and he asked if I go get him a deal. He was about to pay $279 I said hold on...looked on the web for 2 minutes to find it on sale the off to Canadian tire we went. He has the receipt. But yes to worked.

You get $18 back in Canadain tire paper money or they might be able to put on your Canadian tire card as points.

Cdn Tire also sells the Garmin 255. This is not wide screen but does do Text-2-speech and has better screen refreshes. It is not on their website (yet) but it is in this weeks flyer for $299.

Anyways, BestBuy regular price for the 255 is $249 currently on for $239. But BB is having their preferred customer sale this Monday, all GPSs 10% off. So depending on what price they knock 10% off, the 255 will be down to either $225 or $216. Go to Cdn Tire and get it for the lower price and an extra $22 in Cdn Tire money.

I have, in the past, done price matches at Cdn tire, and while a bit of a pain, it can be done. They guy actually called BB to get to read off the bar code number.

If the GPS uses mini-USB to charge, could you just use a blackberry charger?

spotts01
Sep 10th, 2008, 08:22 PM
yes - you can use just about any mini-usb. However the unit will go into charge mode and not turn on. It will only turn on and still charge with the Garmin charger.

There is a work-around to get past this limitation, at least on my 250
1 - power on with battery (not plugged in) wait till booted up
2 - press and hold the battery icon - it will go into a setup screen after 5-10 seconds
3 - plug in non-garmin adapter
4 - power off
5 - power back on.

I think these are the steps - going from memory
