I know! It wasn't that long ago that Zellers sold this pasta for $1.09 regular price. I remember exactly the same thing.. Less then a buck for 900g pasta about 5 years ago. I wonder what happened..

As for Italpasta, its only ok.. If I can find it, I get Garofalo whole wheat organic spaghetti. Its some of the best pasta I've ever had. And $1.19-1.79 for 500g when I'm lucky.

I heard that the price of flour dramatically increased over the last year or so, which contributed to the sharp bumps in pasta prices.

I find that IP tastes much better than Prmo or Unico, and is among the better dried pastas. A couple months ago the $750g bags were on sale in No Frills for $1, and I got bought a whole box (That's 15 bags).

Is there a limit on the Zeller's sale?

So I went to Zeller's yesterday got 14 packages of spaghetti, which amounted to be aroudn half of the available stock there (I went to the one in the Bridgeport plaza in Waterloo).

Colgate toothpaste at 2 for 65 cents is an awesome deal too~

The best dried pasta (coming from an italian chef) which is available at most supermarkets is Dececco. Its two-three times the price of italpasta but when boiled, it tastes like fresh pasta or very similar nontheless.

Only narcistic pasta cravers would care about this, lol.

Yes, pretty good deal. But I picked up 4 Crest for FREE at Zellers yesterday with the bonus 30,000 pts offer. :cheesygri

Dececco is awesome. I'm paying the extra now, since I don't eat pasta often, I'll eat the best since it's still around $2. The other day I found some clearance Italpasta at Dominion for 59c (they were renovating) - it was horrible. Ended up giving it to the parents.

What you're looking for with pasta is a rough surface. That surface grabs onto the sauce and holds the flavor. To get that texture, you press the pasta through bronze dies. Most supermarket pasta uses teflon dies, which give a smooth surface that doesn't grab the sauce.

The new President's Choice bronze cut pasta isn't bad either.

been a while since i bought non whole wheat pasta, but as i recall 900g no name was 99 cents regular price at superstore and 900g catelli or similar was on sale for 99 cents every month or two at one of save-on, safeway or london drugs as well

is this italpasta really good or something, or has 'white' pasta gone through some inflation over the last year or two?

Good timing on this deal - haven't seen $1 pasta in a year! There was a limit of 6 at Saskatoon Centre Mall, so will go back again this week for more. Love the Scooby/twirly ones, they really hold the sauce. Hmm, think I'll use the cheap albacore tuna to make tuna thermidor to go with the linguine!

OOS at my local Zellers when I got there on saturday at 10am. Usually there is a pallet on the floor but none on that day. Going to ask for raincheck(s) on my next visit if no re-stock by this friday. To add, it takes a longer time to cook Italpasta than other brands. Preferred Catelli pasta, not so murky during cooking and they done in about 10-12 mins.

Food Basics has a 900 gram package of pasta varieties starting tomorrow for $1.
Also, Ragu is on sale for 88 cents at Giant Tiger. Ragu is okay, but I like Primo and Hunts better.
