An almost identical Acer was selling for the same price at Christmas... considering that, I'm not sure the same latop 9 months later is a deal anymore.
Link to deal: http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=526234
Still, probably useful for anyone looking for a $400 laptop, thanks for posting :)

Has anybody noticed that the notebook specs haven't changed at all from last year?

Ahhhh...The Source...I wouldn't buy any gear from them that may require servicing. I've had their "tech support" manager blatantly lie to me.

My wife has a Dell Latitude 110L laptop and we're looking to upgrade. Would this be a noticeable upgrade? Are there any other (current) deals within the $400-$500 price range that would be better than this? The Latitude has a Celeron M130 processor and 1GB RAM. She just uses the laptop for work (school teacher), email and web browsing.

If your 110L has XP, then this one with a gig of ram and Vista may certainly be slower. You can fiddle with what services are running, and removing certain aspects to speed things up tho. I've got a couple of Vista units that I play with, and with the required tweaking, actually run well with a gig.

Didn't FS have a refurb Compaq Dual Core Pentium last week for $399? Dell just finished having a Dual Core for $399 too? If it's not urgent, maybe you can wait for a more powerful system to come along? These days, you almost "gotta" have dual core to do anything. OTOH, if you absolutely just surf/email and do word processing, you could probably get away with a Celeron.
I tried running a hi def demo clip on a single core 2.2Ghz, couldn't do it. My single core 1.8Ghz had no probs.

Thanks for the suggestions. There's no real rush, but it would be nice to have a new one for September since she's a teacher. Also, I wouldn't be keeping Vista on the laptop, I'd have to clear it out and install XP on it since her software she uses for school isn't compatible with Vista.

$399 seems like the price-point for this year's Back to School. I don't expect $299 full-size laptops advertised between now & October. Dell for example offers $399/$459/$549/+++ and just keeps altering CPU/HDD combos. The other discounts are Staples Clearance & Door Crashers...but they're all limited supply or included "No Store Pickup" restrictions.
My Take --> TSCC clearance items are always customer returns or re-sealed demos. I can't believe I'm going to say they're worse than TigerDirect. TD is crap!
I've purchased UPS with dead batteries, items packed in ripped boxes & missing cards/instructions, cameras with old photos loaded in memory card. Don't forget, TSCC are franchisees so return policy & service varies between stores. Some locations are OK, while others are downright criminal. I admit I enjoy tracking down $1-$10 items but I wouldn't risk purchasing regular price or expensive items like a laptop/desktop. Imagine discovering dead pixels and arguing with the store associate :(

I agree... TSCC employees (for the most part) really put the "ass" in "associate".

Are you saying that this laptop is demo or clearance? On their website, it clearly states 'new'
