havent checked lately... is force unleashed multiplayer as well, or just singleplayer ?

Maximus VI

^ Pretty sure it's just single player, so realistically you could beat the game in a week and then return it.

Do you think EB Games will let me trade it in just right after I picked it up?

Because I really want the game for credit, I don't even have a 360...yet (probably early next year.) :cheesygri
I'm scared they'd want to ban my customer info on their database. :(

i got a bit to add..

hmm i got a cam pic of the actual flyer ad.
nothing that interesting in the fine print..

http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/7338/dsc00346ne9.jpg

-game must be picked up within one week of release date
-in store credit is trade credit valued at the pretax price of the game
-receipt from pickup transaction is needed
-all games traded in later than 1 week will be current TIV and not a full refund
-game returned must be in good condition with manual and case [ lol :D ]
-refurb charges may apply [ boo as usual  ]
-Offer may be discontinued at any time.

Fine print says...

...when you trade Staw Wars in within one week of the products PICKUP DATE. Staw Wars must be picked up within one week of release date.

so i guess its 1 week from when you buy it. though you dont have that much delay time =(

the "scam" works as follows:

- buy 3 games at BBV worth 20-30$
- trade it in to EBG for something valued at 60$
- return that something and get 60$ ebgames credit for 20-30$.

And yes, if you're afraid of getting banned, just bring it in the next day, with some BS story to boot (i.e. I hate this game).

I didn't have cash on me. I used my old games to purchase it.
WarioWare Wii $21
Mario Strikers Wii $20
Metroid Prime Hunters $13
total: $54
but then I knew I could do the Star Wars Gaming Guarantee deal and get $6 more. :cheesygri

Yeah, it's $60 for PS3/360 versions.

as for the person who mentioned the BBV "scam"
no, I didn't buy BBV games... all are cleared.
the ones left all have a TIV inferior to $8

thanks for your advice, I'm new to EB Games deals...

I'm usually one of the boo-birds denouncing this sort of thing, but it seems pretty handy this time around. I pre-ordered it based on hype, so I'll get a chance to see if it's any good. If not, I'll just use the credit towards Fallout 3 instead when it comes out.

For people who live in provinces with high tax who plan to return the game in a week's time for store credit. Wouldn't it just be a lot less hassle to just go out and rent the game for 7 days? You're getting store credit at the price you pay before tax, so you're losing money anyways?

In B.C. the game would come to a total of $67.14, meaning $7.15 in taxes. I haven't rented a game in ages, but even a 2 day rental back in the day was $5-$6 plus taxes. I think it's edged up even higher recently. So, it's about even. Save for the possibility you like the game and keep it. In that case, you're ahead of the game.

When you use the edge card you don't pay tax on your purchase so it works out the same. I was wondering, is the Ps3 version $69.99? On the Eb site, it shows it as $69.99 and the 360 version as $59.99. I got two pre-orders today with the trade 3 promo and both say $59.99 on the receipt though.

yes, but those cheap games at BBV that have $8+ TIV at EBG are getting pretty hard to find these days.

during the initial firesale at BBV (actually, more like "backfire" sale against EBG :D ), a lot of games at $10-15 qualified.
now, it seems to me like only a handful still work.

it's too bad they no longer accept current-gen games (PS2/XBOX/GCN) for trade promos, cuz i could've used a few towards T3GIF.... =[

It's still listed on the website, they have done this deal with quite a few titles recently that were all sub-par games and they still honoured it; Haze and Alone in the Dark come to mind although Soul Calibur IV was a good choice.

IIRC, the last few GG titles have been really horrible. Haze, Alone in the Dark, and now SWTFU (hmmmm, an unfortunate acronym but fitting perhaps).

It almost sends a red flag message to buyers that they might really not like this game. Have any great titles had this guarantee recently?

I have both myself. I usually only buy PS3 exclusives. Or when there is a really radically different game because of artwork or textures I'll get that version of the game instead.

I enjoy the achievement system that's all =/

I saved a copy of the pdf just in case they do pull it though. I'll be ready to whip it out (not like that! ) if my EB tries to pretend like it never existed.

Did a trade three for this and I wasn't going to keep my pre-order after the mediocre reviews and demo, but since they are doing this promo, I might as well beat it over a week and give it back I guess...

1.) Just $5 is all that's needed, or 3 games ($8+ TIV) if you are doing the trade deal.

2.) You get back exactly how and what you paid. If paying by cash, it will include tax. If you paid with trade credit or did the trade promo, they will credit you $59.99 tax free.

So basically, you get your money back no matter how you slice it. No more, no less.

My kids had been playing with the Wii version and I think the wireless controllers add alot to the game, especially for using the force. Duel mode is neat too. Only problem with the game is that it is too easy. It's like you are invincible. Even the kids got bored of just walking around and destroying everything and stopped playing after an hour.

$60 for 7 hours of gameplay isn't worth it in my books, I've gotten more gameplay out of the NHL 09 Demo.

But we're not really paying $60 since we're getting full credit if we return it in a week. So although we will still have $60 on deposit with EB we've rented it for a week for free.

we pre-ordered several months ago and they called us last month to come and pick up the action figure.

laura

yea laura is right, usually the preorder items are handed out 3-4 weeks in advance of the actual release. If it slips closer to release EB screwed up the coordination of the event.

I didn't really want one but it would have been nice if they were any left on hand =p

FYI, I saw this game in the Superstore (RCSS) flyer for $34.99 this week. Although the ad did say "from" so not sure if that is the PS or NDS pricing or what.

just to state the obvious, the 360 version is of course $60 still. The $35 must have been the DS/PS2, i happened to be in SS yesterday

I have been reading a few reviews on this game and also saw a few spots on G4 Tech TV and this game is apparently not that great after all. It seems to have a lot of bugs/issues...can anyone comment on this if you have it? I am looking at the PS3 version if that matters.

Thanks

The game is very buggy but it's not the unplayable kind. The game's targetting system is like an afterthought and if they had put a sliver of time into it versus the time dumped into making the two new physics engines they could have really had something. It could have used more time to polish, there are some occasional blinking textures or even sometimes ripping. On the PS3 the texture problem is worse for some reason. The final epic scene is a real pain in the butt because of the targetting system.

The game is fairly easy but I guess some of the replay value comes in trying to find all the unlockables and the hidden items.

It's a sweet idea of a game with some really cool bits but you are distracted constantly by the mechanics of the game. Why they decided to use this archaic 16 bit control scheme is beyong me. Every thing you can do in the game is assigned to a different button push and you have to constantly be on your toes to remember exactly what push is what. It could have really been simplified down to one button push for any event because they are never stacked. And the combo system for finishing moves is ********. If you see it's prompt to execute it you are lucky, if you don't you get penalized force points for not doing it and you have to trigger it again lol

The camera is almost as bad as the targetting.

Everything else is fun tho and it's pretty. It's a renter or EB's 7 day gaming guarantee thingy.

It could have been so much more. I'm sad. I guess FU2 will be everything this one should have been heh.

I got my 360 version yesterday, and so far I'm having a lot of fun. I do die a lot, and it does get frustrating, but being able to grab an enemy shoot it with lightening and hurl it into another group of enemies is totally worth it :D

I don't plan on rushing and finishing this game just to return it in a week. I've been waiting for this game since last year and plan to savor every minute while playing it. I'm a fan of Star Wars and look forward to playing this. I picked up my copy last night but because of House premiere and having to watch Prison Break from the previous night, i haven't opened it yet. Tonight I will give it a go.

This is an easy answer for Wii owners (well for me anyway). Only GHWT is confirmed to have DLC (Downloadable Content). Rock Band 2 is still unknown which makes me doubt they will have it.

the movie and in game animation is quite good too...it does have it's finer points this game.

I am about 1/2 way through the game. I am kinda enjoying it, not quite as fun as what I have hoped. There are quite a few bugs, but the biggest complaint for me is the targeting system. When you are fighting like 10-15 guys, you dont really want to also be taking on a huge fight with the targeting system also... specially when they get you in a stun combo. I was playing it on hard, but due to the targetting system I had to knock it down to medium.
I think it is worth playing so far, but I am definitely taking it back to EB on mon or tue and pickin up RB2

Bob: You can’t return an item based purely on spite.

Don't get too cozy, it will be a love hate relationship.

Thats exactly what it is. You take the good (their promos that are pretty decent most of the time) with the bad (having to explain yourself for everything you would like to do and bring proof that you can do that.)

All in all, as long as you read carefully, print out things/keep flyers and double check your receipts, EB games is your friend. A high maintenance friend, but still your friend. You usually know what to expect.

oh yea been there. the staff at the new place are an rfder's dream ^^ nice people too.

AFAIK, it must be original location.

original location staff wouldn't allow it?

I returned my FU to a different store actually. I have done it yesterday and numerous times before with other titles. Their receipts are centrally located so they just scan it and blammo np. Mileage is probably YMMV if you get an anal employee or something like that but it does work fine. I don't think it matters.

The only spoiler I've had so far is the game itself. Does anyone else think it's pretty lame? I hate games where you are bound by invisible walls. Sure, you can toss some wookies off a bridge or cliff, but you yourself are protected by those magic rails.

Bringing it back today in case I forget tomorrow... Dead Space here I come...

Ha, see I found in same cases I really could have used more invisible rails. At one stage I kept falling off a metal ledge to my death. Two or three times after stabbing a stormtrooper manning a cannon (i.e.: when you strike, you move forward a little bit, including right off ledges), another few times getting hit by really cheap rockets, and a couple of times just walking off a gap that I needed to jump. I much preferred a Ninja Gaiden style "rail system", where you can't walk yourself off an an area that will kill you... but you can always jump to your death if you really want to.

Story: 9/10

Audio: 9/10

Gameplay: 5/10 (there should have been some sort of lock toggle for force grab, as I found I was grabbing things that I didn't want to grab; the camera was also pretty bad in some spots; some of the boss battles... one in particular was tedious as hell, and not particularly fun)

Replay value: 3/10 (probably play through some of it again, with cheat codes to max everything out).

Overall disappointment factor: 7/10 This was one game I was really looking forward to, and although it was a mildly entertaining romp, it was an overall letdown.

decent game but not worth 59.99 good thing for the gaming guarantee. I can see tonnes of people returning the game.

It has a decent story but the game mechanics still need a lot work. 7/10 for me on this one. Enjoyable for one play through but not worth going through again.

The question now is: are there any other upcoming Gaming Guarantee titles announced I could swap this for, so as to keep the chain reaction going? (or in this case, the 'pain reaction' :()

I returned mine yesterday at a different store and put it on a Fallout 3 CE for the 360 as a place holder. There's nothing really up coming that I don't already have preordered...too many preorder promotions!

It's in the trailer that you fight Vader, and if you lose you can't continue the story. Plus it wouldn't exactly reveal the final boss in the trailer either...

And if you didn't see the trailer, it would be a spoiler. Oops.

Glad I started and finished the game before reading this thread :cheesygri .

I'm returning my copy later today. Honestly, I'm disappointed with the game as there are too many cheap deaths and other annoying things. I didn't bother finishing the game, that's how disgusted I'm with it!

well, it's just what i've been told a few times.

but come to think of it again, thinking of the barcode scanning on bottom of receipt, sounds like it should be possible.

if you can return sth bought f/ another store, i guess this should theoretically be allowed too.

I was wondering did they make you pay the additional $10 even tho it was the promo weekend? I already had fallout preordered at a different store and didn't want to bother shifting it around. I didn't ask if I could get a straight swap so they threw it on a gift card.

I returned my copy today. Overall, I'd give the game 3 out of 5. It's at least worth a rental. My major dislike is the targeting in the game, or lack there of. Trying to pick up a specific object in a group using Force grip isn't the problem, it's when you have to use Force throw to fling said object at a moving target. More than 50% of the time the game would target the wrong enemy. Instead of targeting the closest enemy it would often target something off-screen. I got so frustrated I almost broke my controller on the Star Destroyer stage. I ran into the same problem when I had to use Force lightning and Force push. Also, the enemies in this game are really cheap, especially the bosses. I completed the Dark Side ending and didn't feel like replaying the last level to get the "good" ending, mainly because the last boss is super-cheap. If you can overlook these problems then you'll still have a good time, it's just that you probably won't want to replay the game.

Returned my copy today (Wii): I figure I can buy it again when the price drops, or find my copy used and get it for $44.99 - 10% (Edge). The clerk was already sticking a used label on it.

So, I just picked up the 360 version today, and the staff there insisted that the game guarantee promo runs from the release date of the game. I tried to argue that it's in their own fine print stating 7 days from pickup date, but they wouldn't budge. They kept saying tomorrow (Tuesday, the 23rd) is the last day I can trade back for full value. Which means I basically have to try to beat the game in a day, LOL

What can I do in this case? I don't think EB Games has any sort of customer helpline for service compaints/inquiries.

But it does say in their own damn flyer about 7 days from pickup date. I mean, come on!

Yeah they did. The store said that it didn't matter that I originally traded in for FU but if I was doing a trade 3 then they could bump up the value to $69.99. That's ok, I didn't feel like arguing over $10 anyway.

Vader was pretty tough round 2 wasn't he. Every boss has a gimmick in this game though and once you find it they're cake.

They only hold pre-orders for 48 hours, so the longest this could ever be is 2 days after the first week is up. They don't have a leg to stand on if you have a receipt, but since they're being arses, just calmly say that you will need to speak to the manager about this...

...or not in case this is your only EB around you. Enter the love-hate relationship...

Bring your cell and call Customer Service there. I've called them a few times and got my way, which was the right way. I find even the Managers pull the I dunno card often but my guy always offers the CS hotline to me, which is usually the US one and then you get shuffled to the Canada branch. They make you work for it sometimes :)
