We have a few hundred Dell Optiplex computers to give away, with the following minimum specs (not much deviation from this though... some have more RAM, some have bigger drives):

- Pentium III 500MHz
- 128MB RAM
- 6.4GB hard drive
- Integrated sound, video, LAN, USB
- 15" CRT monitor
- Floppy drives, some with CD-ROM drives
- Sorry, no keyboard, mouse, or Windows OS included, although I can install a Linux variant upon request (gOS works quickly on these machines)
- Come with power cables & network cables
- All are in good working order

I know they can't hold a candle to modern machines, but they still have their uses.

*NONPROFIT/CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS, SCHOOLS & INDIVIDUALS WILL BE GIVEN PRIORITY* however, everything must go so drop me a line if you are at all interested, I just won't give you first dibs if you're a for-profit entity

- Everything will be available after September 5th, if you need something sooner, please ask and we may be able to work something out
- Pick up only; sorry, no deliveries
- Everything is located in Penticton

We also have office furniture that we'd like to give away to nonprofits, everything is in Penticton.

Nicely done. What organization do these belong to in Penticton? Curious.

I'm the tech at the Excell Services call centre here, and sadly we're being shut down. Our corporate parent has said they don't have any other uses for these machines, so has left it up to us to get rid of them however we see fit, which is why I'd like to see them to go to places where they'd do good for people who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford a computer. If you know anyone in Penticton who could do with one, please pass this along - everything has to be out of the building by September 29th.

Thanks man, just wish it was under better circumstances.

Haha, I might offer to ship them if you check back next month (depending on how fast locals are taking them), but I know that these are heavy SOBs - a 6 ft³ box of 5 computers weighs 84lbs. You can check the shipping cost from V2A 8G8 on Greyhound, but I don't think it would be worth it...

Maybe you can called this Computer Recycling Center in Vancouver that helps the Needy..:

You can also called the Vancouver Computer Literacy Society :

I think they will be very happy that you are donating 300 + computers as their website said they are looking for thousands of P3 and P4 computers for the needy's...I think you can help them alot in Vancouver...

These would be great for people who can't afford to buy some in the Penticton area.Would also be great starters for the much younger kids to get familiar with computers.I've done that with my son, and has learned to do so much. Also teaches them basic skills like spelling, small and capital letters and so much more.My 6 year old has learned to respect the computer as a learning tool, so we bought him his very own brand new one, then we passed on the other so someone else can get the same chance he had.He is only 6, and totally fascinated with what the computer can do.I certainly hope the little guy we gave it to,learns as much as my son did.

I think you're doing a great thing by giving them away for learning purposes.Bless you all!

Have a great upcoming weekend!

...I remember the good old days when Pentium III was considered state-of-the-art...time flies...

Anyway, its great so many people will be able to get a free PC.
Pentium III can still do what it did when it came out. Sure you wont run any new games on it but its more than enough to surf the internet, and do tasks that do not require raw processing power.
