Pay an extra 20% for extended warranty! No way!
If it breaks during the extended warranty period, just buy another laptop for the same price and you will be upgraded to a better model. It's only a $500 piece of hardware. Practically a throw-away item.
Alternatively, you could buy it on a credit card that offers extended warranty.

99 dollars at staples plus they cover your battery ($80 shipped) so im paying 19 dollars extra for free repairs for 2 years

So instead of them buying you out for like 350, you would spend 500?
i dont have a credit card with a extended warranty. my dad has a gold card but it doesnt offer it

I bought it @ Staples too... funny thing is i got it for $49 today after doing PM instead of buying it right away.:cheesygri
There's a promotion this week (at least in some stores) when you buy clearance laptop > $500 (and the manager considered the one i bought > $500 since its 502 before tax) so she took $100 off the warranty (regular 149, i paid 49). Its actually 2 extra years, not 2 years. Read the fine print, the warranty starts AFTER the manufacturer warranty ends.:cheesygri

Not worth it. The warranty is for one year. Credit cards with warranty extension will give you another year.
Laptops are usually worth half their value each year. So after 2 years, your laptop will be worth $200 at most. Is there a 50% chance that your laptop will die in a manner covered by extended warranty between year 2 and 3? Nope. If there's a 10% chance that the laptop will die between 2 and 3, then the warranty on a $200 laptop is worth buying if the cost is under $20.
A far better idea is to spend $100 on a single blackjack hand. Your odds of winning and paying for a 2 year old replacement laptop are almost 50-50, far better then the odds of your laptop actually needing replacement in a couple of years.
It seems like a good idea when you think you're insuring a $500 laptop... but really, you're insuring a 2 year old laptop worth far less.
If you don't have a credit card that gives you extending warranty, consider it.
