Hey everyone,

A total newb question, I know i should probably call rogers but I thought I'd try here before going through their CS. I just got Rogers internet installed today and the technician came in and set up the cable modem. I plugged one end of the ethernet cable to the modem and the other to my computer. I thought it should automatically connect to the internet, however, it's saying I have limited/no connectivity and when I open a web browsber nothing is loading. It's been awhile since I have done this but is there anything else I need to do to set it up?

The Rogers cable guy should have set it up for you right then and there. You are right, call Rogers, they are the only ones who can help you. It could be anything from a reboot of the modem needed to something in your computer.

OP, which OS are you running?

When was the last time you used the computer's network card?

Check the ethernet cable. Are you getting "Link" LED? Pull the cable, LED should turn off. Connect cable, LED should turn on.

I would double-check that the network settings are set to "Assign Dynamic IP Address" (and not a static IP address).

Disable, then enable the network adapter via Windows (and/or "Repair).

While is thought is pretty funny, it doesn't help OP much. Its like Please call BELL at xyz when you are having trouble with your BELL phone line.

OP: Try rebooting the modem. Here's how:

1. Shut down your computer
2. Unplug the power to the modem (pull the electrical plug from the wall)
3. Wait 2 minutes (longer just to be sure)
4. Plug back power to the modem
5. Restart computer, log in WinXP /Vista like normal
6. Try internet

If this does not work, then call Rogers. They will do a trace or whatchamacallit back to your modem to see if its the Rogers modem problem or not.

There are other ways to get onto the internet to post you know - dialup, tether a cell modem, from work/friend's house/neighbour....

Hey everyone, thanks for your help, I appreciate it. It seems to be working fine now.

And for those asking how I posted, I was actually at work when I made this thread. The Rogers guy came and I left for work and let my sister take care of the rest.
