I highly recommend to students to transfer out of the BAS program when they get the marks unless they're very sure of their academic and job hunting abilities. Decent jobs out of Atkinson is very tough and the school is just as hard to get into as UTSG & Ryerson both of which have much better student services & alumni network(crucial for b-school). The people I know who get good jobs are usually the type that would succeed at any school or with skyhigh accounting marks. There are some other problems with the program too. The most annoying thing you'll come across is trying to answer this question from employers "Why did you choose Atkinson?". Basically they're saying Schulich students want jobs here too, why should we hire you? But again if you;re confident in your abilities then Admin. Studies, like any other program does the job.
I transferred out after 2 years so if anyone has any questions just PM me.

You'll be the last class to attend Atkinson. It'll be killed/merged next year: YorkU: Transition to the New Faculty (http://www.yorku.ca/laps/transition/index.html)

The number of students from Atkinson getting hired into Big4 has increased. I don't know what makes you think Ryerson is better. They both are of the same level, in fact I consider Atkinson better because York University has a reputation of being a good business university. Thanks to Schulich Atkinson has gained poularity.
You cannot compare Atkinson and Ryerson because they have roughly the same level of competition and fall under the same tier. Ryerson isn't even known for business.
UTSG is miles ahead of Ryerson and Atkinson. You've got yourself really mixed up lol sort yourself out mate.
We can go on and on about which university is better for undergrad, fact is, they're all the same, it's only the reputation that differs but the degree content is the same. Networking helps to some extent, but it won't spoon feed you. YOU need to make an effort no matter which university you're in to get into good networking and build your contacts.
If you have a strong networking base, you're good to go, doesn't matter if you're in Laurier or Windsor.

Thanks for the reply. I emphasized in my previous post that its really *you* who makes the education worthwhile (which includes networking) but there is no doubt that Ryerson has better student services. Reputation is not even a matter in this discussion. From my experiences and accounts of others on the student services of the the two schools, Ryerson by far outpaces Atkinson.
Atkinson has no incentive to improve their program, build their reputation, or support their alumni (No MBA Alumni, Ryerson does). This would add competition to Schulich. Being in the clubs at York and attending events with other bschools also shows the level of spirit of a growing school (Ryerson) and the school shadowed by Schulich (Atkinson). The representation is just not there. For the whole bschool experience, Ryerson is very decent. Their recent branding with Ted Rogers also shows its continual growth. It also helps that you're earning a B.Comm not B.A.S. But again I emphasize if you're confident in your abilities (Which means university is really what you make out of it) then Atkinson is fine. But if you need some direction, support from school and students then Ryerson > York.
One more thing to consider is that Atkinson faculty is being dissolved into a full fledged Part-Time faculty with the rest moving into a consolidated Arts Faculty. What kind of commitment is this students to the students?
The recent increase in hiring from the Big4 is because the strength of Atkinson's accounting club. Having been in the club from off the radar to a friend becoming president, its really the only gem in Atkinson. This club is an absolute must if you want better chances for a job. Big4 + Midsizes have very close relationship with the club. Few of the recruiters are Atkinson alum.
Again, UTSG entrance averages are around the same level as Atkinsons (high 80s) But it might've changed since I was in highschool because Commerce is considered under the Rotman brand. That's why I was comparing the two (I also transferred pretty easily with B+ average)
This is of course another comparing schools post and I'll just end it with its really what you make out of it. Be involved in clubs, volunteer, get good grades, network and you'll get that job.
-----
Here's my contribution! If anyone is taking ADMS 1010 please do yourself a favour and avoid Diane Jurkowski (My class average 55%). If you're taking MODR courses, do it with Diane Zorn if possible. She's a Schulich prof, easy, effective teaching and youtube vids during breaks!

Exactly. I't's all about what you make out of it. You cannot compare the reputation of Atkinson and Ryerson because they both are equal. You could say Ryerson has better student services, I can say York has a better business reputation.
Each university has its pros and cons. There are several business degrees in Canada, BSc in Business, BSBA, BBA, iBBA, BAcc, BAS, B.Comm; all these are the same with only different names.
It's what you make out of your university as you have put it. Each university can walk you to the ladder, but how far you will climb that ladder all depends on you.
Hopefully we have resolved this issue, at the end, Ryerson or Atkinson, doesn't matter as long as you know where to put your foot.
