Hi, i'm getting sick of wearing glasses..
I'm looking into laser eye surgery / lens implant..
Which one is better? What are their prices?
Anyone have suggestion on where to do it in the York Region area?
Thanks

I went to Herzig to get my PRK surgery done for $6000. Because I have thin corneas they recommended PRK or implants but not Lasik. I did some research and found PRK to be my best bet. The implants option wasn't too appealing to me because I read that if your prescription changes drastically they will have to go in there again and insert new power lenses and just the fact that they are going further in the eye makes me a little queasy. There are less complications with PRK but a longer healing period. Took me about 3 months to see good and about 6 months to see crystal clear. I suggest you do extensive reading on the web and talk to people who have actually had it done. I researched for about a year until I finally got the guts to do it. The procedure was quick and painless but I did have some pain on the second day but it was bearable with the pain meds. Experiencing some dry eyes because of fans and A/C but all is dandy.

Have you tired contact lenses?
Even those 99% people have no problems with laser surgery, I still wouldn't want to be that 1%.
I have no problems with contacts.

I think I'd personally prefer to wait for another 10-15 years of data before jumping on the laser eye surgery bandwagon. But if the OP has done their research and is prepared to take the risk, good for them.

Thousands and thousands of people have had laser eye surgery, you do realize that... lol

There's a difference between laser eye surgery and lens implants, the latter being for cataract surgery.

Yes, but this is still a fairly new procedure, it's only been readily avail in the consumer mkt for what, like 10-15 yrs?

So there isn't any real proof of long term(30-40+ yrs down the road) effectives.

But as another poster mentioned, if OP feels this is the avenue for them, then go for it. Hope the procedure goes well.

implants is not just for cataracts. It is an option for people who can't have lasik or PRK. (lasik lasers away the cornea so if you dont have enough you cant get lasik). Normally people with high prescriptions cant get lasik. Last year I went for a consultation at probably the best eye clinic in the USA. (beverly Hills, CA) They told me that I don't qualify for lasik and they recommended the implants. The thought of a lens being inserted into my eye scared me too much so I went with PRK. After researching more I finally decided to stick with my lenses, maybe I will revisit in a few years.
My prescription is so bad that it is almost guaranteed that I would need follow-up surgery which is what put me off. I was being charged something like US 4000 for any of the 3 options.

Did they say you still would have to wear glasses after the "lens implant"?

It also depends on your cornea thickness cuz LASIK they basically burn off pieces of cornea but there's only so much they can take off.

OP, if you have lots of cash, check out ortho-K.

No, they said PRK would give me 20/40 and so would the implants.. (no lasik allowed coz of cornea being too thin)... however, they said because my prescription is so high, it is very common to need a "retouch" in a few years. (touch ups were free at that clinic).

The reason they can't do lasik on some people is that everytime they do lasik it wears away some cornea thickness so although I could have had it once, there would not be enough cornea left if I were to need a retouch in a few years..

IMO, if I can't have lasik, its too much pain/time without good vision etc to be worth it. My friend had lasik and literally could see perfectly straightaway, with the other two methods, it can be months - as above poster mentioned. I need to drive for work so I dont see how I could do it.
