Instead of 7:30am, try 6:45-7:00am...that should alleviate some congestion on the DVP. In the afternoon, 3:00-3:30pm is the ideal solution. After 4:00pm, it gets congested. It should take you 20-30 minutes in the morning (if using suggested time) and 30-45 minutes in the afternoon (if using suggested time).
I *used* to commute from Steeles to Jamieson Exit and that was the schedule I prefer.

i say about an hour-an hour 15 mins....for a faster route..exit at sheppard and turn south on don mills then hop back on dvp again..

You're clueless. The 404/DVP time alone will not be 75 minutes, maybe his entire commute.

I'd disagree... if OP hops on 404/DVP from Steeles at 7:30... 1hr to 1hr and 15 minutes about right. The bottleneck at 401/Dvp will take you 10-15 minutes alone.
I usually take 401 to DVP, rather than going Steeles and then down the 404/DVP cause I hate that bottleneck.
OP - if you need to be DT by 8:45, entering 404 at Steeles by 7:30 should get you there without problem... especially these days when there's a lot of ppl on vacation... I've notice quite a bit fewer cars on the roads.

i think you're the clueless one..i used to go to school in downtown and i leave around 7:15a.m. to make to downtown right at around 8:30-8:45a.m from Major Mack.....
how is that not possible for that time??
To OP..like mic said..if you make it to steeles/404 around 7:30..you can get to downtown around 8:45 no problem

I can leave my house at 7:15 (10km east of the 404) and get downtown to Bloor/St. George (5km west of dvp) by 8:45. Trust me, the 404/dvp time does not take 75 minutes. I'd approximate 50 or less.

still works out to about 1hr on the 404/DVP...
10km to 404 - about 20 minutes
5km to Bloor/St George - about 10 minutes
Your total travel time is 1 and half hour - that would make it 1hr on the 404/DVP.
To be a little more accurate - assuming you're getting off at the Bloor exit... and OP is heading a little further to Richmond - tag on another 5 minutes... so, 65 minutes time on 404/DVP is a fair estimate.

If you want to get to Queens Quay, why do you want to get off at the Richmond St exit?
IMO, you are better off STAYING on the DVP until you merge onto the Gardiner Westbound and get off at either the "Jarvis" Exit or "Yonge/Bay/York" Exit as it is faster & less traffic to get to Queens Quay this way.
