Since 5010s are being discounted like its not funny, 2299 and the like, has anyone seen a good deal on the 6010? Alternative, one of the newer 1080p 60ish inch Panasonics?

Yeah, that is cold. I figured that since 5010s are going for 2299, I might be able to find a 6010 for 3000 or less (one can hope).

One of the obstacles to getting a deal on a 6010 most likely lies in the cost price to the dealer. The 6020 has a lower MSRP than the 6010, and most likely, a lower cost price. So unless Pioneer provides dealer incentives to reduce the cost, the draw of a 6020 for a relatively small amount more (if you get on the group buy or just negotiate a better deal) makes it worth considering.
Having said that, at my Costco, we have an LG 60" 1080P plasma for $3300. It's obviously not even comparable to the Kuros, but my point is that a sub-$3000 60" 1080P 'basic' plasma is probably a few months away. A Kuro will probably approach this price within 1-1.5 years, based on past trends.

I think one or two people got a deal on a display 5010, based on a package deal. I wouldn't say that "they are going" for that amount on a regular basis. It's more like being in the right place at the right time with the proper negotiations and a very kind salesperson. Oh yeah, and a bit of luck ;)
