Hey, im new here and i probably shouldnt request stuff before reading a bit more, but im looking for a good deal on a computer. I want to spend like 500 max, dont care if its intel or amd. I cant seem to find any good deals right now on bestbuy or futureshop

I would mainly use the computer for faster photo editing, converting movies for ipod/xbox , watching tv, light pc gaming, etc I just want a faster one than i have now.(2.8ghz P4, 512 ram, crappy pci card) If i bought it for games it would just cost too much and there would be new, faster video cards, ram, etc a few months later. If i built it myself, I wouldnt have any trouble putting it together, i have installed hds, video cards, and dvd drives easily and i am knowledgeable with computers. It seems like more money building from scratch though. One reason id rather get a pre-made one is that it saves me the cost of another operating system. (vista is around 150 separately i think)

Edit with what you want to do with it and you'll get more responses, plus if you are able to or know someone that can put it together, say from reputable NCIX.com - big savings and custom.

I dont recommand you to buy parts and assemble yourself. They don't work well together. Computers are not like other products like car, for instance. they may have conflicts working together even though you buy all the assemblies from top-tier brand names. That's why they have bunch of hardware test technicians in Dell or HP.

i would have to disagree... with a bit of research or just asking, you can easily assemble a computer with a variety of components to choose from

just choose your motherboard first, from there you can find out which components work with it and which don't

ncix or canadacomputers would be a good start for cheap computers

what about this http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10100653&catid=24137&logon=&langid=EN

does it look ok? I may upgrade psu and vid card later on

Also, has anyone ordered off of ncix's pc builder? It looks like i could get a very nice pc for around 700!

I have exactly the same monitor, plus the 5600 or 6000 amd is better than the intel on that...
