Depends on you. It wouldn't be hard for someone who likes math but if you're not so great in math you'll probably find it challenging. As with anything, you WILL pass if you work. It's not beastly and it's intended for people who aren't math experts. The advice I'll give you is go to all lectures, take good notes, and READ before you go to lectures. Also, do ALL problem sets even if they aren't going to be marked. You'd be surprised how many questions out of the textbook end up on the exam.

Is this math for management? If so, it is really easy.

Yeah it's math for commerce/management.

Dunno if its the same at UTSG, but from what i heard, its alot easier than MAT135, and MAT135 is pretty much review of grade12 calculus.

I don't think it should be that hard. I personally took MAT137 and that was freaking hard to me.

All Math courses are review of gr 12 cal from the first term. After Chirstmas its Integration with inifinite series, 100% harder than taking derivatives. As for MAT133, the easist among the three math.

Oh yea, I am taking some university preparation math course and it's mainly focused on Integrals. I find intergration by parts and Riemann sums to be pretty difficult. Also, notes/hmwk are out from the MAT135 Text book! So I am starting to get the concepts and such, hopefully I'll do well in MAT133 at UTM!

MAT133 with Wilk is easy~

til you start slacking after the ridiculously easy first test and then the integrals, multivariable calc kick in :)

133 is easy. It's 137 and 157 that are the first-year killers in math.

My friend had to take 157 for computer programming and it literally destroyed his cGPA.

Tell me about it! 157 is the hardest and alot of people end up dropping down to 137 and it's still hard. lol

When I took it you had to get 55% to move on, which wasn't easy!

Easiest course in Commerce, that being said I know many people who did horrible and regret not trying harder. After all it is still University. I nearly got 100% on my final exam. This is coming from someone who had to take Calculus 12 twice in high school. But the bottom line is, that it is still University, and there are no shortcuts.

This is why I always say - don't worry about whether the course is "easy" or "hard", just do the work and you'll get a good mark.

hi, I took mat133 and I got 85, although I entered with 92 and i thought i did extremely well.................off topic but can I request the exam now?

Financial math = easy
Limits = wtf?
derivative = dont drink and .....
integrals and multivariable is soso, they don't get in depth and the questions are fairly straightforward and they dont try to be homosexual. If you do your homework, exam and tests are easy.

all in all, there arent many trick questions. If you do your homework, u'll find the test laughable.

very true, i'm not sure if its still the same, but tests are generally easy. They usually put one question in the very end that no one has seen before. That's basically your "bonus". If you get that, great. If don't, you're pretty much guaranteed 80+, assuming you didn't do something really stupid.

MAT133 isn't hard at all.

MAT135 isn't hard provided that:

1) you are good at math - not just regular good, but so good that you have actually won awards in math competitions in highschool, and already know wut integrals are. If you are one of this group of elites, then you don't even have to go to class, and can still get 90+

2) go sit in a lecture section that has a good instructor. Check out the anticalendar for this.

3) DO that past tests. Actually, nearly all questions are recycled in format, with only the numbers being changed.

4) Find someone who TOOK & ACED the course to tutor you, don't just get someone who has a math degree to teach you. Those who actually took the course would know what's important, and wut's not.

5) Try to do as many practice questions from the book, math is a one course that PRACTICE MAKES IT BETTER for sure. This was what I did, and I got 97.:cheesygri

Good luck to all 1st UT life-sci freshmen ~:)
Hope you enjoy the course.

Prof. Lam

Prof. Lam was said to be one of the greatest. He had this funny HK accent, which reminded everyone of Russel Peters.....

I took it with someone else, don't remember the name... Maybe Prof. Bloom. Also great!!

I advise you to try out all the profs. and pick a one you like. But, it's most safe to sit with Dr. Lam as he will write all the exam questions.
