Hi all,

I have a few questions regarding to signing up just for a wireless voice plan with Rogers.

Q1. As a new customer, what is the likelihood to negotiate a $25 [megatime 25] "deal" (including VM,Caller ID and SMS with no extra charge).

Q2.By which method (in-store and by phone) is it easier to get a deal?

Q3. If I were to sign up for a plan, might I as well pick up a free or cheap phone along with the plan?

Is there anything else I should be aware of? Any suggestion? Thank you.

A1. Unlikely, you have no leverage. Even those that do have leverage aren't guaranteed to get something like that.

A2. If you were to negotiate a deal, it must be over the phone. Those Rogers kiosk dealers have zero power to very little.

A3. Only if you don't mind being locked into a contract. But if it is not broken, why fix it? (referring to phone)

A4. I hear Rogers has really bad customer service, this is what I've concluded after reading a lot of pages from the thread in 'Hot Deals'. YMMV...a lot!

Rogers initial plans suck b*alls, their retention plans are the only reason peeps stay with them.
Read the Rogers retentions thread for more deets on how to do it and to get an idea of what deals other peeps is getting.

When we first signed with Rogers we had two phones (unlocked/unbranded) and kept insisting that we did not want a timed plan. The rep kept pushing a phone (we didn't need/want) on us and we kept say NO!

We didn't get the phone, but somehow we got stuck on a three year plan!!!! I was FUMING when we called to remove something after the 3 months of freebies expired. It took about four weeks to get a supervisor to remove the dated plan!!! Fortunately I don't give up, and we had the 3 year anniversary date removed eventually.

Oh boy. Don't mean to hijack this thread, but my wife and I currently have pay as you go phones (7-11 and virgin), and a Rogers home phone. In total, we're probably paying around $65/month for everything.

I'm thinking about dropping the home phone and getting cell phone plans for the two of us through Rogers. I currently pay about $130 a month to Robbers for phone, internet and cable tv (have called retentions for lower rates/free stuff), so I'm wondering if I'll have any leverage to get some decent plans.

We already have 2 unlocked phones to use, and I don't want to sign a contract. What are the chances of me getting the following:
-100 anytime mins
-200 long distance mins
-call display
-voicemail
-unlimited evenings and weekends from 6pm
~100 text messages
~200mb data plan

Split between the two of us for around $70/month including everything?

I'm guessing you'll also want unlimited calls between you and your wife.

I have 300 daytime minutes shared between my wife and I and that's probably the minimum you would want as well if it's replacing your home phone.
