So I got an Iphone 3G from Rogers last week, and just today I noticed a tiny speck on the screen. I thought it was just some lint or something but it turns out it's a dead pixel. So since it's only been a week since I got it, am I still covered through them for an over the counter exchange? Or would I have to go through a repair process?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Should be able to do a over the counter exchange if you bought it at the store. But if it was delivered from rogers i belive they'll instruct you to send it back by parcel. On another note, its expected to have 1 or so on there. The next phone you may get might have more. I only say this because i read a thread i think on hofo' where a person noticed a dead pixel and did 5 exchanges in a day. All 5 had several dead pixels and ended up leaving with his original returned phone as it was the best out of the bunch. Then again you only had it for week so you really have nothing to loose by returning it. Hope it gets resolved and report back on what happened.

I think Rogers' warranty policy is either <30 days direct replacement or <30 minutes of talk time? I am not too sure. After these periods, you have to take it to the Apple Store, or something (manufacturer warranty)

Ugh..I bought it over the phone so I guess it's a bit of a wait to get another one..

yeah,, if you used over 30 minutes of talk time.. you must take it to the genius bar at the apple store. There, they will give your a direct replacement of your product. I am going to the apple store tomorrow at the eaton centre to get my iphone replaced. My sim card slot is jammed. =( it isn't coming out. so i'll have to call rogers on the spot to activate another sim card.

^ YES! We have a Apple Store in Vancouver now. Phew.

But I called Rogers, they told me they'd send me another...but to ship back the old one. Anyone ever have any experience with exchanging a phone this way? Is that how it's supposed to be? They send me the phone and I send it back afterwards? Or did the rep get it mixed up a bit? He seemed like he didn't know too much about what he was telling me..

As far as I know, Apple Store doesn't exchange/replace iPhones here in Canada. You must deal with Rogers/Fido at their Call Center. - I might be wrong, someone go to an Apple Store and try! :)

On the paper they gave out, it says 1 year warranty from Apple by Rogers/Fido. So nothing to do with the 30 days , 30 minutes stuff.

I got a dead pixel too. Phone was purchased from Rogers Plus store on the 11th. After 8 or 9 phone calls, finally got a smart rep at the Rogers Call Center , he told me they will send me another one via courier (took 3 days UPS to Edmonton)

You just follow the instruction, swap the sim card, unbrick it via iTunes, and box the broken one back in the box and send it back. They even provided tape for you to seal the box.

Return UPS postage & bag are provided, just put the sticker on and drop it off at UPS.

The replacement I got has more dead pixels than my original one. So now I'm just sending back their "replacement" and getting another replacement. So watch for those once you get the unit.

So do they give you another 30 days replacement after you get your replacement? After 30 days isn't it repair only and not replacement?

As far as I know the 30 mins/30 days thing is for a full refund, and 30 days is how long you have for a replacement...

I'm typing out the Rogers panthlet (Rogers iPhone 3G Getting Started):

The in- warranty period for a new iPhone is one year from date of purchase. Defects covered by the manufacturers warranty are supported by the Rogers Wireless Advance Exchange program. If you have a problem with your iPhone please call 1-888-ROGERS-1 (from a phone other than your iPhone) and at the prompt say "Wireless Consumer Technical Support". If a component is deemed defective and under the manufacturer's warranty a replacement will be sent to you by courier.

...
So it should be a -replacement- during that 1 year warranty

Just got off the phone with a Rogers' rep.

He said my instructions provided from the last rep were "all screwed up", I suppose to send in my original one instead of giving them back the replacement.

Their system were actually waiting to receive my old phone, and had registered the new one in service. Now the agent has to go into the system and fix everything up, and will be sending me another replacement right the way.

I could've been charged ~$620 since they didn't recieved the phone they're waiting for.

oh well... so whoever got a defective replacement unit, make sure you send in your old one and keep the -new- one!
