Hi there

When everybody(include me) is fighting for an iPhone with Rogers retention department for $199, I got a call from Telus. I don't know why they picked me up, but here's what he offered to me:

Cell: $0 HTC Diamond
Cell Plan: $17.30/m 200min, u/l eve/wknd @6pm,u/l incoming, CID, VM3
Data Plan: $15/m u/l WEB,email, and IM
Contract: 3yrs
Price in total: 17.30+15+6.95+0.75=40.2, that's $45 tax in!

Just to let u know the below message has been circulated by Security in most corporates in Alberta.....
===========
A number of companies in Alberta, BC and Ontario have reported receiving phone calls from individuals identifying themselves as Telus Mobility representatives. The caller is offering a cell phone promotion. He or she attempts to gather personal information (phone number, address, email, credit and banking) to complete this transaction.

Corporate Security has verified with Telus that this is a scam. Always remember, if an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Please follow these steps should you receive a suspicious phone call

What to do if you receive a suspicious phone call…
1. Do NOT provide the person with any requested information.
2. Try to find out as much information about the caller as possible
· What is his/her name?
· Where is she/he calling from?
· What organization does he/she represent?
· What is the purpose of the inquiry?
· Note the call display number on your phone.

Thanks for your kind reminder!:) I didn't release any information to him although I'm not a telus mobility user. I'm a Telus landline and internet user so I was in their system.

More than two guys on hofo forum confirmed this as well.

And most important, I don't think this is a "too good" offer because: 1. My Rogers voice plan is very similar to this. If they don't offer me this, why should I transfer? 2. The $15 all-in data plan was on their website before and was pulled off few days ago. If u negotiate with them, they will give it to u. That's also confirmed by lot's of people on hofo forum. 3. The Diamond claims its self as iPhone's competitor. But it's really not. The same words here: If they don't offer me this, why should I transfer?

Dang, thanks for the heads up!

5 years ago, Rogers called me and gave me a better offer so I switched from Telus. 5 yrs after, same thing happened to me but Rogers and Telus switched their position.

I never scared to talk with a stranger. Be alert, and be smart! As sanjayshroff said: Never give out personal information (phone number, address, email, credit and banking)!

ha, I got the epp 17.30 plan when they called me yesterday. just called 611 to make sure it was for real, yes.

i wish we could use this telus plan above as leverage to get the iphone plan down to earth, but i don't think rogers is bending too much for new activations.

If you've ever talked to previous owners of HTC products, you would know WHY NOT to get an HTC...

If you've ever used an iPhone, you would know WHY to get an iPhone.

Obviously, if you are on a tight budget, then an HTC might be an option. Having problems with dropped calls, and mechanical failures would be enough to keep me away from an HTC.

i politely disagree. i have used the HTC tytn II and the touch for a while and on both occasions, both phones were very good. i also have many friends who used htc products and had the same results as i did.

That's great for them... unfortunately, I have 3 friends with HTC's and ALL of them had problems and have sworn never to buy another HTC product. They are stuck with them until their contract can be upgraded.

One of my friends has a problem that needs to be fixed in Europe, apparently...

As an aside, does anyone know where to get HTC's fixed in Canada? I have been looking for somewhere that can fix it, for my friend...

I was seriously thinking of getting the HTC Touch Diamond with the $15 unlimited web/im/email plan and was just waiting for it to release. But Telus took it off, so now I might just get the iPhone.

I understand your pain since I did own several smart devices(phone or PDA) using different systems: WM and PALM. I believe PALM is still the best in speaking of the overall performence. My two yrs old treo 650 still holds more than 2 or 3 days battery; runs TomTom smoothly without any lug; not restarted since, may be one year ago; Lightening fast speed compare to WM. However, if you do some tune-up for your WM device, it's very usable and user friendly than PALM.

I don't have an iPhone so I can't compare. But as in all of the reviews, it's not the top one. it's basically a BASIC phone+iPod, but not a PDA. How can a PDA don't even have basic copy/paste function? Not to mention it's battery life is short as well.

Ask them for the $15 unlimited web/im/email plan, they'll give it to you.

Its highly likely theres nothing at all wrong with the phone and it is just running crappy firmware. The stock firmware Bell and Telus ship is known to be crappy. Flash with some firmware from xda-developers and you will be golden.

The iPhone is much more than a glorified iPod...

Since I got it, i've used all of the other functions much more than the iPod.

A lot of people miss copy and paste, but it is something that is a bit complicated to do properly on a device in which you typically use your fingers to manipulate information. (ie. how does the device know when you want to select text vs. just moving something around on the screen?)

Apple will eventually implement copy and paste, and it will be a free upgrade, so I don't think that's a big deal.

If copying and pasting is the most important thing on a PDA, I would be very surprised. I'd rather use my PDA to take notes, check my schedule (and my wife's), check my email, do some basic calculations, etc.

People at xda-developers are playing with the new Telus firmware for Touch, which ables the internal GPS. Can't wait the official release.

Edit: sorry, a bit off topic
