cnet's review about the 83
"The bottom line: The Sony NV-U83T is a seemingly attractive in-car GPS with a large display and useful navigation features, but it shows its ugly side with poor directions and subpar performance"

There is this thing called Google...

I believe a two hour battery life is fairly typical, my TomTom 920 gets two hours roughly, so does my wifes high end Garmin. That's why they come with the power cord. A simple Google search would reveal that it uses the Navteq maps.

Seriously, you couldn't just use a search engine and type "Sony NVU83T review"?
Here you go, just click on the underlined letters!

I have read positive reviews of this update from users. Seems like most major bugs are fixed and the routing is much better (more direct from Pt A to Pt B, instead of the long route) The screen and interface is one of the best in the market from the users review.... I am having trouble to decide between this sony, or the more reputable garmin brands.....

My two cents...
I had been hesitating for approximately 3 months prior deciding to purchase my GPS. I ended up choosing the Garmin 760. Bottom line very happy, They tought about everything, from the clarity of the interface, to the cable that connects to the cradle not the unit and other sweet goodies that you can download. No question Garmin brand the best GPS on the market period. For a few buck, why risk anything else.

In your opinion it is maybe, period.
Personally I prefer my TomTom 920 but to each their own.

I'm with you selpats! The TomTom 920 is a pretty versatile GPS. Have you been using Map Share with it? That is the crowd-sourcing tool that lets TT owners share their map edits with others. The base maps are Tele Atlas, and with their maps plus the Map Share data, your gps is one accurate little machine!
I'm just getting into Map Share, so I'm curious how others are using it.

Funny thing is, I put in "NVU73T review" in google and this forum popped up. I really am sad I missed the boat on the Dell deal for the TomTom Go 730 for $300. I would have got that but didn't pull the trigger soon enough.

To put it simply, if you're looking for a gps go for a garmin. This unit has nice features but the maps are out dated, and the directions it gives have been far longer than I expected them. And also on few occasions, it took me to wrong place :( .
Another thing I noticed is that it takes some time to get a signal initially and also it's a little slow in recalculating routes.
The interface is very nice, simple and easy to use. I has text to voice and when it does take you to the proper place, it will get you there on the side of the street the said destination is which is a nice feature. The points of interest are also nice although take a while to search through.
I've sent a request in for the update disc, so I'm hoping some of these problems can be resolved.
