Im on the Fido Student Plan and i want to switch to the iPhone 3G. But i still have 1 years left till my contract to end. If i cancel my plan and sign up an 3 year contract with the iPhone 3G do i have to pay an "cancelling fee"? Whats my best option, since i want the iPhone 3G?

do an upgrade. as long as you are in the time frame to renew your contract you can do a phone upgrade. but i don't think you are, you need to be 14 months away from the end of your 3 year contract to upgrade your phone. it's not worth paying $400 cancellation fee for a phone. just wait it out.

+1, you might as well go and buy an iphone without a contract for $600+, by the time you cancel your contract for $400 + iphone for $299 or whatever, you'll be into $700+ and stuck with a 3 year contract.

just got off with fido...
i had the $35 student plan
they did the iphone upgrade for me with no issues..
my plan is now extended to 3 yrs...I had 1.5 years left before
the only annoyance was that it took 15 MINUTES for me to finally get connected to a rep
also, i was required to pay a administrative fee of $35 since i was not yet valid for a hardware upgrade....
apparently, the phone should arrive by august 4th or so...

So it your contract only topped up to 3 years or is it 3 years + 1.5 years left = 4.5 years!?
This was what was told to me by the CSR, since I had 6 months left on the contract, he said this would extend to another 3 years.
