You don't pick the hotel if you name your price via priceline. Hotel name will only be revealed to you after your price is accepted.

Don't go through the regular hotel search. You have to bid for the price but it always works. I have used quite a few times.

You bid on certain type of hotel like 2 star, 3 star, etc and pick your area of the city your hotel and date you need and you can only do it once per day. You also dont know which hotel you will get till after a successful bid which hotel it is. If you get a successful bid, your CC will be billed immediately and dont expect to back out of the deal. They will give you hints to which area of the city your most likey to get a deal.

I bid and won Marriott Toronto Bloor Yorkyille for $68 for mid September. I was actually pissed that I overbid for this hotel. Other people paid $55 for this hotel and about the same period. For $68, I was hoping I would have won Westin Harbour Castle with priceline.
If I have to pay $89 for Delta Toronto East, I would be really, really pissed.

I have used priceline before and it's not necessarily cheaper and I would rather know where in staying before I put my money in someone else's wallet. I travel bi-weekly for business reasons and I usually use priceline however I've also paid over $100 for my rooms on high season through priceline.
This time I'm bringing my family and the Delta Toronto East has Zoo tickets they're giving with their packages. You can also buy them at the front desk for $12.75 taxes inclusive. I don't know where I'm going to find tickets this cheap elsewhere.
IMO if you're bringing kids, stay in the scarborough area. I've stayed with many other hotels in Toronto but none as friendly to my kids as this one.

Wow I can't believe this and all this time I was paying full price for hotels.
Thanks for the information guys.
You need a reality check about Priceline. It is a very risky proposition. A lot of their hotels are terrible. I'ver frequently gotten hotels undergoing reconstruction and refurb , so the owner can't sell the rooms full price. They just dump them on Priceline as a last resort.
In general, Priceline works well in areas that don';t have a big tourist trade and the hotel rooms are not in big demand. The hoteliers are then willing to sell the rooms cheap. In attractive tourist places, the only rooms likely to be available have those that are hard to sell due to some flaw - dirty, old, under refurb, etc. Why would a hotelier sell a room cut rate on Priceline and pay them a commission if he can sell it full price.
Tourism in Toronto is currently way down, so Priceline might work OK, especially for weekends when business travelers are gone. But never rely on getting the same deal that other people have gotten. Priceline changes literally from minute to minute.

I have researched Priceline extensively and I always get what I want. Haven't been dissapointed yet. Even older rooms in a 3-4* hotel are usually more than adequate. They also have to treat you as a regular hotel patron ... if you complain they will usually rectify any situation that is truly unsatisfactory. However, you do often get the bottom of the barrel as a Priceline customer. However, that's still plenty good enough for me with the amount of money saved.

anyone use priceline for niagra falls?
Just did 2 days ago. Sheraton on the falls for $90 per night. Probably a cityview or no view room though. Remember to add $10 for parking.
***I started my bids at $50.00 LOL

I always use priceline when I can. I have never been dissapointed in 20+ tries. It needs a lot of research though. I check trends for the last 6 months in the area where I want to stay by visiting both these websites. As always, the US deals are often better.
biddingfortravel.com
betterbidding.com
Another indicator is hotwire.com. For eg, if hotwire offers a 4* at $80, it is a good bet that priceline will get you a 4* for less than $70.(plus taxes, of course).
Sometimes, posters on these websites will complain about a bad hotel turning up often in a given area. In this case, I usually either (a) abort priceline and regular book a hotel OR (b) book priceline in a different area which has a good history of hotel wins.
some areas are win-wins. for example toronto downtown 4 star, all good hotels. but one or two of the of the 3* have really small rooms. I once paid $35 for country inn in san diego (regular price $150+). It was fabulous and included breakfast as well, almost felt guilty about the price. Also $35 will usually get you the marriott courtyard in mississauga. research is the only way to find out.
For niagara falls in the canadian side, this is not a great time for deals. I recently gave up and just direct booked a hotel because it did not look like I was saving much through priceline. But maybe it was my dates.

I have used priceline for many years mostly for hotels
in Toronto but have also gotten hotels in Orlando, Chicago,
LA, SF at great prices. If you know what you are looking
for, you can get great hotels at great discounts.
Do some research, know what others are paying.
www.biddingfortravel.com is what I used to get an
idea of the current prices and the hotels that are
showing up. Learn what a re-bid is. It's really pretty
easy.

Did some more research...
"9. Does Priceline accept a Canadian credit card?
It accepts a Canadian credit card only with an American billing address. However, Hotwire does accept a Canadian billing address, so you may wish to try them. "
plz tell me that's not true

This Q & A is over three years old. It's so out of date. At one point it was true, but now for priceline, you can use Canadian Credit card with Canadian address. You know how fast things change with Internet.
