Let's hear the suggestions.

Top runners for me are the Honda Accord Coupe V6 6 speed, Nissan Altima Coupe 3.5SE 6 speed, and Mitsubishi Eclipse. All 2008 brand new models.

Which would you choose and why?

Don't like the look of the eclipse, and don't like mitsubishi's reliability. Don't like the rear lights of the altima, but the 3.5 engine is fantastic. Looks on the accord are decent, but unless you get the v6 it's underpowered.

Why not look at a used monte carlo ss (which would run the same price as those guys)

Accord Coupe

That V6 is smoothhhhhhh, and VTEC 2nd cam sounds HOT. Oh, and it uses regular.

Last, but not least, it's got a decent sized trunk!

I definitely prefer the Altima's looks over the Accord's. Does the 3.5SE 6sp. take regular or premium? The V6 Accord apparently takes regular..

Premium for 3.5SE

We have the '08 Altima Coupes, the 2.5S for my sister & 3.5SE for me (both Premium Packages, CVT).

I can't speak for 6-Speed/Manual but if you are going with Automatic, the CVT with Triptronic Control on the Altima Coupe is THE reason why I would go with it.

Honestly, comparing the two. If you are going with Manual, the only advantage IMO are slightly better Reliability, Interior and Trunk Space.

These are from Premium Package and Features I now think can't live without are...

Push Start Button, Intelligent Key, Push Button Door Handles

IMO hondas are way overpriced.. and u need to waste a lot of time haggling the price down

Nissans 3.5 have the best engine with decent pricing

Mitsu = I just don't like the shape... like soap on the road very bubbly

I love the look of the new altima coupes... I almost bought one but I decided to buy used instead. I might buy one in a few years when or if the used ones are significantly cheaper... also one thing that sucks is you cannot get the premium package if you want the 6spd manual. You HAVE to get an auto if you want dual climate control, leather, etc. :(

That's because most of the people that can afford that package don't know how to drive manual lmao xD
Just like how the TL doesn't come in manual anymore... Unless you get the Type-S

Not true for the 3.5SE... you can get 6spd manual with the premium package wthout CVT. It seems only the 2.5S you cannot combine Premium with 6spd... unless it is different at the dealership.

My friend drove the 3.5SE 6spd, he said as much as that engine is awesome, that tranny sucks comparing to the smooth Accord V6 6spd.

I can't really vote for any of these...

The Accord, well we all know how highly I regard Hondas, lol.

The Altima Coupe is the best of the lot IMO but the Coupe is so damn ugly (mainly the rear end) I wouldn't go anywhere near it. The sedan is way better looking and much more practical.

The Eclipse, it looks great on the outside, the interior is alright (not up to par of the Altima I don't think but still much better than older Mitsus), but the visibility in that car is downright dangerous. Really you can't see a damn thing in there. Rear window is tiny, mirrors are small, shoulder checking gets you nowhere really because you still can't see. The front window the front portion doesn't wind down with the rest of it... List goes on. Convertible makes it even worse. I used to love the car just from looking at it but after I drove the first one (in a lot of them) that I did, I felt rather uncomfortable with the outward visibility. Perhaps others will not find this but I certainly did.

If you get the Fosgate audio package in the Eclipse, that wins hands down v. the other cars. Actually I haven't heard the Honda's stereo but I would really be surprised if it had anything on the Fosgate in the Eclipse. Bose in the Altima, well Bose Blose as we all know. The system in the Eclipse isn't that good, but just for factory audio system it's one of the better ones out there by a good margin. It's an overpriced option though, still.

If it must be one of these, I say go with the Altima.

WOW!

IMO take the Accord, while the Altima has a nice V6 engine the coupe looks decidedly downmarket compared to the Accord, and the Accord has a beautiful rear 3/4 view.

EDIT: yes I know we're looking at coupes, but they're still just as big

Because Americans are getting fatter and fatter, and that's their main market.

The North American Accord Coupe isn't sold anywhere else in the world. So yeah, the main market is North America.

I love how North Americans talk about how much better Japanese cars are when none of the Toyotas/Hondas they actually buy are Japanese, and the few real Japanese cars (e.g. TSX) all get made fun of for being too small/underpowered/expensive.

All the car companies know that North Americans only want 3 things - giant gas guzzling BOF live axle leaf spring pickup trucks, giant gas guzzling SUVs, and giant gas guzzling FWD W-bodies. Honda/Toyota are just better at making W-bodies than GM is.

They should be happy now. The new TSX is bigger than the G35, and even the g35 is too big for my tastes.

or are you saying that honda/toyota are not japanese automakers:confused:

I picked the Altima because I've driven all 3. I suggest you do the same when you're seriously considering a vehicle. How else would you know?

I'd go Honda or Nissan in your poll, definitely.

I agree that the Accord is "big" coupe and does not have the coupe feel when sitting inside it. I guess it will have to be tradeoff between looks & features of Altima versus build quality of interior & size of Accord. Personally, I prefer the sportier coupe look of the Altima. Now... is the reliability/build quality THAT much better than the Nissan?!

I am driving a V4 Accord EX-L Coupe right now.. I looked at the Altima coupe SL package as well and was very set on it for a very long time.. But after 2-3 test drives, this is what I found...

1) I cannot stand the loud noise of the CVT... Try driving it without any music on and you're gonna really hear it especially on an uphill

2) The back of the vehicle just didn't look right... I was very disturbed with the shape of the popup trunk.. In fact, I had a big problem with the Accord's big butt for a very long time as well. But eventually got over it in time..

3) Interior build. I don't think you can compare.. Hands down, the Accord just felt more luxurious than the Altima. Seats, side panels, steering wheel... even the cup holder was better built imo..

In the end, I don't think you can go wrong with either car.. Just go with what you are comfortable with.

That's your opinion. I hate the Honda look and I know there's no way in heck the transmission could handle my heavy foot, nor could the car's alternator and battery hold the load of my subwoofers I have in the trunk in the vehicle I drive. I know this because I've seen others try it.

So, goods and bads seen by different people.

Unless your heavy foot can somehow give the engine more power to overload the tranny, I don't see how a tranny isn't good enough for your foot. That is unless you can't drive stick properly, riding the clutch all day, doing redline drops, and money shift (power shift) every shift.

And from what you suggested before, the Altima's 6 sp or CVT tranny is good enough for your heavy foot?

your goods and bads are just smack talk and ubber useless...

Firstly I've seen people with honda's and serious systems so don't even say the alternator and battery can't hold lol (if you have that serious of a system usually you upgrade your alternator and battery accordingly) I was running a 15" rockford fosgate t1 (50LB woofer) off stock battery and alternator and when pounding hard still did not experience dimming lights or rpm drops...plus the accords trunk is bigger so im sure it can take what ever garbage you throw in there.

Now the tranny, what the heck is the difference between honda tranny and nissan tranny? I can tell you this, there are a lot more honda's hitting the tracks and taking far more abuse then you can throw at it on the streets (yes I personally know a few guys that drive their ludes and civics beyond belief)

on that note, i think the accord will definitely need a nice drop in height, to me I feel the accord coupe sits a bit too high.
