In Milton, a brand new, bright yellow hatchback, looked like a cross between a GTI, a Euro spec Civic type R, and a Peugeot... but what was it doing here in Ontario?? I am trying to find a pic....

I don't see it on VW's Canadian site so maybe you're right, unless it's gonna be on 09 model or something. I remember seeing it on Top Gear though and I thought it was LHD so I figured maybe we'd see it here one day.

That's a concept Golf, called the GTI W12. Rear axle and brakes from a Gallardo, twin turbo engine from a Bentley, and the rear subframe and floor from an Audi R8. It's only a concept and will never be put in production.

Regardless of how dark at night, if I see a set of headlights off in the distance, I can tell immediately, what direction the car is pointing.

Cool. Seat Leon Cupra is the same platform as the Rabbit/GTI/A3 though, right?

Also he didn't have to "import" it if it has Mexico plates--he just drove it over! They can't stop you from doing that--they can only stop you from registering it here.

ya it has a 2.0T, making 240hp

Meh just buy a GTI and chip it--close enough. If you really want that look you could probably buy the bumpers/fenders and retrofit it to look like a Seat; might even be cheaper.

Otherwise there are cars that are importable from Mexico, no doubt--you could look into that. I'm sure there are brokers that would do this. I heard of a guy importing an Audi S3 from Mexico, so it it's probably possible with the Seat Cupra.

Then why do waste so much $$ on projects like these.

Supposedly there is some kind of loophole in NAFTA that might allow cars 10 years and older to be imported from Mexico. There's a thread in IVOAC about it, but who knows if it's true or not. In any case there aren't really any desirable cars Mexico has that we don't, not 10 years old anyway. Some oddball European small cars like Peugeots and Citroens and Alfa Romeos is all. The S3 isn't going to be importable for a while if the 10 year rule is true and it's not that different from the R32/GTi anyway.

The story you heard was probably this one http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3470228

Well it's a bit different than both. It has the Haldex of the R32/A3 3.2L and the upgraded 2.0T engine putting out 265hp. Oh and a manual trans. A3 2.0T is available in 09 with the 2.0T and Haldex, though it won't have the same engine nor is manual trans an option--DSG only on the Quattro.

LOL actually I did hear that story but that's an 8L S3, not an 8P. That story was hillarious though, I was laughing reading through when I did. I think the importing of the mexican 8P S3 that I'm referring to, is actually to the US, not Canada. However with Canada's newly harmonised bumper standards, it's a possibility no?

If you watched the Top Gear episode on it Jeremy said it was put together in quick haste for some VW owners convention or something, to keep them happy.

Check RIV, I think you can legall drive the car here with a foreign plate up to 3 years or something given that you are a visitor and will bring the car out with you once you leave... Don't know the exact number of years and rules etc, but I remember this on top of my head.
