if you go into the big N95 thread.. I already posted a link to unbranding the N95, you may want to check there first.

Having all these iphones and N95 threads covering already covered material is kinda annoying to go through..

Wait, so you cant unlock it, only unbrand it? If I debrand it, can I install the newest firmware?

unlock = can use on another gsm provider (i'm pretty sure it can be unlocked by a professional. Not sure if we can do it ourselves)
debrand = remove rogers' software off the phone and replace it with generic firmware. This makes the phone faster and overall better and more stable in the case of the n95. This can then be updated to the latest firmware provided by nokia. (we can do this ourselves by changing the NAM code then updating using Nokia's updater software)

Ive debranded a SE before, is it roughly the same?

i'd say the n95 is easier.
I'm just not doing it myself yet because I want to make sure I don't void my warranty so fast. The last thing I want is my phone's hardware failing a few months down the line and finding out my warranty's been voided.

Is it possible to make a backup copy of the current Rogers firmware? That way if we update and something happens we can put back the Rogers firmware and be like what the heck is wrong with this POS? :)

lol that'd be great but using the methods I've run into so far that help you in debranding, you can't put the rogers firmware back on UNLESS rogers decides to release a newer version of the firmware than you currently have on your device.
So say you debranded and flashed to generic v20. Rogers would have to come out with their own version that's v21 or better. Knowing Rogers, that won't happen anytime soon.
Of course if there's a way to flash whatever firmware version I want on the device, then someone link me now. I want my video camera feature working properly on this device.

Maybe we can start a how to thread for debranding this thing and getting it up to code. I am also worried about warranty but personally its worth the risk. So just to clear things up, the only thing you lose from going to generic is rogers vision and some of their internet connections? As in how would we connect to the normal rogers internet and so on. You cant edit any of them on the phone, so how do you know what their server address or whatever is?

Ill be the guinea pig, just as long as it gets unlocked, unbranded and everythign works fine, ie internet because I have the 6gb data plan.

I found this link so far

Just need a product code as there is no NA

The closest thing you can do is unbrand it and use a hypersim... in that case, you can use any sim card with it.

What about upgrading the firmware? Would Rogers give up the unlock codes?

Check out this thread from HoFo (http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1389884&page=1&pp=15)

I have unbranded my N95-8gb and it's worth it IMO. Don't ask Rogers how to unlock/unbrand your phone.

*Btw I used the generic North America product code to update my firmware. I am not sure what would happen if you use Europe/Asia product code?

according to hofo here: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1373744&page=4
the generic firmware ID for n95 8gb, NA version is 0561948
HOWEVER i haven't done this so don't quote me on this.

The info for the acess points is available online or by calling rogers. When I got my overseas phone, I called them and they told me exactly what to put to connect to goRogers and their SMS server. Later, I also found it on the internet.

The only way to unlock this phone is with a Code. I've got mine done using the remote unlocking method..

Don't use any free code generators that you find on the internet.. those are for older 1st generation Nokia. And you only get 3 wrong Tries instead of the traditional 5 times with these models.

These Nokia N95 are called BB5 models.

I bought my code for $25 here:
http://www.remoteunlocking.ca
I ordered it in the morning, got it in the afternoon. all they need is your IMEI.

Give it a try! :cheesygri

Is the unlock code a 1 time use thing? If not I am sure we can all pitch in 2$ or something to send to you to share it with us via private message. That way you and us all end up getting un unlocked phone for like 2$ lol.

Lol, if it were only that easy. Phone manufactureur's smartened up. Each unlock code is specific to the serial # (IMEI #). Plus, if you enter an incorrect unlock code too many times (3 to 5), your phone will become locked with additional security.

save your money, you dun have to buy anything, confirmed Code is 0561948, I have tried it does work perfectly, btw, mine is made by Korea.

I even entered other codes before besides the one I mentioned above, I get no error at the first place, but it refused to update to latest firmware, so I found the code above and refreshed n95 again, it did do all upgrade stuff and got no problem ater 3 days

About process how to unlock, serach the post before me, it explain so clearly

so is there anyway to unlock the n95? anyone know of a reliable place i can get it done without costing too much?

Is there someone I can take it to, to do everything for me? I'm too lazy to read up on this stuff :) lol

I debranded my phone, and the APN settings were automatically detected and set back from my SIM card. Nokia PC Suite backup worked for my contacts, but using it for settings screwed up the interface (had to reflash again). I believe that the games/software installed on your 8GB drive (not phone memory) *should* be retained, but I can't confirm it, as I reinstalled a newer version of Garmin right after.

So I took the plunge and debranded my Rogers N95 8GB last night.

Took all of 2 minutes to flash the product code and about 10 minutes to do the firmware update.

Easy as pie.

This thing is WAY faster now. Definitely worth it.

I can unlock the N95 through codes. It's fast and easy. My price is 14.99$ visit my website at www.gtagsm.com and click on remote unlocking. Instructions are found on the website, it shouldn't take you more than 1 minute to complete the unlock once you receive the code. :)
