Just curious. Wondering if the '09 model will see a drop in price similar to what Toyota did with the Corolla and Matrix, given the downward trend of the auto industry. I haven't read anything about it, though.
I suppose it'd also be nice if someone could provide invoice pricing for an '08 Auto Civic LX. :)

Everything should be $3-4000 off and you shouldn't settle for less. Even the 2009 redesigned/facelifted models. If you're paying closer to Canadian MSRP and not the US MSRP -> you're hosed.:cheesygri

You'll never be able to buy a car in Canada if you will only pay US MSRP. It's not the stealership making a huge markup, it's the MANUFACTURER. Unless the manufacturers adjust their prices, there isn't much the stealership can do
Honda has about 8% difference from MSRP to invoice, so you can do the math. But this does not include any cash discount or gas card rebate for the month. Your best bet is to sign up for APA or CarCostCanada. Also, the downward trend of the auto industry are often associated with the gas guzzlers in the lineup and rather the fuel efficient Civic. ;)

Does it matter who is marking up the price ?
The bottomline is you gotta be paying a little above US MSRP to call it a good deal. Price is going to soften up slowly every year for the next few years to make it comparable to stateside. Manufacturer/dealer will exploit every opportunity to charge as much as they can. Yes, if you're going for a popular model, you might have to pay for more.
e.g. If someone were looking for an Impreza in June, got all the facts from CCC/APA or whatever, they figure they can only get ~$1000 off and the dealer is doing them such big favor and not overcharging...
Guess what happened, after Canada day, the price is $4000 off ! CCC/APA will not help if you don't have a fair price in mind before going to the dealership.

I think it's a pretty bad time to get a 08 Civic now, you missed out on the finance deal in January and February. I'd say wait until the 09 hit the dealership in Sept, i heard there will be a minor mid-cycle facelift, at that time you can see if there's price drop on the 09 and you will certainly be getting a better deal if you decide to take one of the 08 on the lot.

What financing deal did he miss out on from January? Honda is still offering 0.9% on 36 months.
Its a tough call to say if they will adjust the prices of 09s to compete with Toyota. I myself am looking at a Civic and have the cost of an LX SR automatic from carcostcanada if your interested. One would hope that they will lower the prices for 09s, but they might not offer the same deals on financing. As far as I've heard the 09s are no different, atleast thats what the salesman told me.

Gonna be buying it straight up, so financing promotions don't really concern me. What's a mid-cycle facelift? Do you mean the '09 will see a design change before the year's end? That's a curious business strategy.
I think I'll just go into a dealership and inquire. If the price is right, I might as well get the thing now. One thing, do LX models have ESC? I know different manufacturers have their own names for it, but I don't see it listed as a feature for *any* models.

Hello, I am in the market for a 08 Civic LX myself, can you PM me the carcostcanada report? Appreciated!

With 0.9% financing, there's no point buying it straight up, unless you can get significant discounts. Otherwise, you'd be making more money by investing your cash for 36 months and paying off the monthly payments instead.

The "financing" deal that I was thinking about was the lease deals, it was 1.5% with higher residual than the 3.9% now.
Mid-cycle facelift doesn't mean they will make changes to the car in the middle of the year, but since 8th gen civic is entering 4th year of production in 2009, Honda will be making some minor changes to it to refresh the look. Here's a link to the 2009 hybrid:

The changes are subtle, but you will be able to see the difference between this and the 06-08 Civic.

It looks pretty good, I dig it. I don't think the LX will have that look, though, not without making additions, and the Hybrid/higher-end models are out of my price range. Still, thanks for that bit of info, I appreciate it.

Agreed. Even putting it into a guaranteed high interest savings account will get you at least 3%.

Im pretty sure most companies have a cash incentive, not sure the rates, or which would work out better, but you'd have to consider that if you had the cash to buy it outright.
