First of all:
Yes I know TSCC has a really cheap deal on this, but I'm looking for BNIB unbranded/unlocked.
Yes I know I really should buy it over in Asia, but I don't want to bother with customs with the amount of other stuff my parents will be 'bringing' back over.
Yes I really should be trying to haggle a deal in the BST

Going overseas for a wedding in two weeks and figured I'd like to get an unlocked phone since my cheap fido phone is...well cheap...it's literally a KRZR prototype.

Tigerdirect had a decent price of of $639 for the phone last week, however with rumors that the price would go down, I decided to wait. To my dismay the price actually went UP to $780 now!! Thus started my search for other retailers for unlocked phones. After a long exhausting search I came upon a US based store (link below) that sells it for $579 USD. I emailed them asking about taxes and shipping, they responded stating NO taxes will be charged and shipping rates of $25 FedEx economy (6-10 business days) and $50 for FedEx priority. I also called up my CC company (Citi) about foreign $ transactions and they said I would be charged 2.5% of the CAD$ eq. total.

So here are my rough calculations:
579.99
+50 shipping (since I want to get the phone before I leave)
-----
629.99
x 1.00573 (current USD->CAD rate)
-----
633.55
+ 16 (2.5% transaction fee )
-----
$650 (+/- a few cents with round)

Now $650 (or even more) is what most other stores (here in Canada) are charging for the phone BEFORE taxes, shipping etc.

So here are my main questions:
What if any problems will be cause the phone to get stuck at the border because of 'no tax'?
What's the concensus out there regarding their shipping times? (I've read quite a few reviews that vary greatly)
and finally...Does anyone have any promo/discount codes for this store? :D

I'd really like to get the phone before the end of this month. Leaving on Aug 1st. Yeah I know it's a bit of a read sorry about that. Thanks all in advance

try this place... usually $50 off for pick up at their Mississauga store... and usually they don't charge taxes with cash transaction... so, $610, all in.

I strongly suggest for you to get a Rogers' version for the warranty... 99% of the phones from cellphone stores are grey market, and has little to no warranty - definitely won't be from the manufacturer.

If you're going to asia / hk, bringing a cell phone over is really a no brainer when it gets through custom. Especially if you stuff a sim card to it and have it on after you landed in canada. They really can't say you bought it in asia.

agreed although the firmware sux. You could always try going through markways who give u a 1 yr warranty and ship the product for you from whichever country the warranty is valid from.

Unfortunately I just started a 3yr Fido contract about 4 or 5 months ago now. I sent SNTraders an email via their contact page asking about taxes etc, last night. Haven't gotten a response yet. I'll try calling tomorrow. I was planning on using my enrich card...but recalculating...save on tax > $6 cash back. I really would prefer to buy the phone in store too so I could get a 'feel' for the company.

I checked them a few nights ago, price was good, but then I noticed the phone was Rogers locked. AFAIK, won't be video calling much people anyways.
