so right now i'm looking into getting a cell phone. i previously have not had one, so i'm completely new to this. i know people with rogers/fido retention have gotten great plans, but is there something similar for customers signing up for a new contract ?

i definitely want to stick with fido/rogers cause of the gsm/sim card flexibility.

i've seen plans for $17.50 epp from rogers being posted, which include things like
200 anytime minutes, free evening after 6pm, free weekends, etc.

something like that would be perfect, but it seems like its through the retention dept. only ? is there a way to obtain a plan like this ?

any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

you should check up on Telus' retention offers, they blow Rogers and Fido's away

do a search, it's the EPP $20, as for phone, that's up to your preferences

the bad thing about retention threads, it gives new users the idea that they are being "ripped off" b/c they have to pay more money for the first while. understand why it's called "retention". their job is to keep existing customers who have spent money with them over the past years to stay.

i suggest you go to pacific mall (if you're in toronto) and find one of the fido stores there. i saw them advertising a $15 plan.

if you ssee my thread in BST feedback, you can take over my 2 year left contract and its a decent plan =)

yep I suggest taking that route. Best way to get a plan. The only other ways is if you can get a corporate plan or go to places like pacific mall which will put you on a cheap plan.

One of my friends who didn't have a cell phone called in this week to Rogers and got some crazy plan by just negotiating with them. Wasn't a customer at all, he has Virgin pre paid before this.

Basically stated what he wanted and the price he was willing to spend and they gave him pretty much everything:

300 mins (maybe it was 250)
caller id
incoming
texts
vm
unlimted after 6

taxed in he said it was like 41/month

I'm going to wait till he gets his bill, and just call and ask for the same thing, since I currently am with virgin too and have no contract.
