I have never purchase a vehicle off dealer so I'm looking for tips on how to get the best deal

I'm looking for Toyota Matrix/ Honda Fit. What's their "cost" price?

There are also some auto dealers on Auto Trader selling 2005 Toyota Matrix.

or you can get CarCostCanada.com report (CAA members save 25%)..

add about $500 to 3% to the Wholesale price and you have a pretty good deal..

.. and do not give in to offers that say "if you buy NOW/TODAY, we'll take $$$ off".. it's your money - so take time to decide when and how to spend it.. no body will give you a car with $0 profit - no matter 'nice' a sales person is..

This is my opinion only, but the matrix has a lot more car than the fit.

IMO you should aim @ 10% off the MSRP - but in practice it's usually around 8%

A common Honda product markup over invoice is 8%. So if you want a ballpark invoice number, take the MSRP and multiply by 0.92.

Better than all these "ballpark", "in practice it's usually", and other comments, is just use the APA.ca buying service.

Multiply by 0.92 or divide by 1.08?

(well, they should be almost the same +/- $100, i think)

For a Fit, wait for the redesign 09 to hit the lot (assuming you want the current generation). You will get the best deal at that time.

I went through the APA last week and bought a Toyota Yaris. Saved $500. The mark up on them isn't much. I would imagine the Matrix has a bigger mark up so you would possibly be able to save more. The salesmen I was referred to was super nice and made it painless. Also waved the administrative fees which were something like $300.

This the quote from toyota.ca showing MSRP and related charges for Toyota Matrix 2009 FWD BASIC ...

FINANCE/CASH

MSRP: $16,715.00

Administration Fee - Included
Documentation Charge - N/C
Freight and Delivery - $1,140.00
Lien Registration Fee - Not Applicable
Block Heater -- Mandatory - $210.00
Tax For Fuel Conservation - $75.00

SUBTOTAL for Finance/Cash - $18,140.00

GST (5.0%) - $907.00
PST (8.0%) - $1,451.20

TOTAL for Finance/Cash: $20,498.20

If I get 10%, then my total payment would be $18,609.41... The other charges just killed the price. Do you think they would waive some of those misc fee on top of it? Say I get floor model?

It depends on how motivated they are to get the car off their lot.
