Yes Hertz, Avis, Alamo, Budget, Enterprise... You get the point. Unless it's a 'specialized' vehicle ALL rentals should carry unlimited miles (assuming you're over 25). Travel to the US is fine. Just mention it to them when you pick up the vehicle.

Hertz - for sure.
I have taken hertz cars to US multiple times. They just say that as long as it comes back to GTA, they are good.

Alamo allows it as long as you rent for more than 7 days I believe. We got charged per KM for returning it early but worked things out in the end.
Oh and we took it to the States too.

From my experience renting vehicles (mainly Hertz, Alamo, and Avis), Generally, I have noticed:
-If its a weekday rental, there's a 200km exemption, then charge after, with daily rates usually pretty expensive (guess they realize they can make alot of $$ off companies that will pay for this)
-If its a week or longer, its unlimited mileage.
-If its a weekend rental, they have generally been unlimited km (and cheaper too).
I haven't had any problems with entering the U.S. but you might still want to check that.
Enterprise is definitely a no-no for almost anything mentioned above, as they are more privately run/manager incentive, and generally try to up-sell to their customers.

is actually depends on each individual franchise..some give you unlimited km and some don't..some let you go ot the states and some don't...so u have to do ur own research

Are you sure you're all signed up as 'preferred' or whatever the membership tiers are on each of the companies websites??? Honestly, I've been renting regularly for the last 5 years and I've never come across any mileage limit with the exception of Hertz on their prestige collection and some locations in Mexico that are strict about their allowance.

Who do you find good to rent from in Mexico?

Have you tried priceline (www.priceline.com)...? If you live in Toronto it only lets you pick up from the airport but you always have unlimited mileage which technically includes to the states.
I used it, although I didn't want one, I did get a Corolla for $8 a day + taxes + fees.
failing that, www.carrentals.com is also a good option as they do give bare bottom prices as well.

ok, so I have a insurance question.
Me & my friends are planning to go to Montreal (from Toronto) for a weekend. The rental company gives unlimited km if we stay within Ontario. What is the downside to that?
Also, if Person X gets the rental under his name, and Persons X & Y drive it - what are the downsides to that?

Enterprise is the only car company that will NOT let you take your car into the US. On top of that they'll only give you unlimited miles within Ontario. Not that they ever find out if you go into ajacent provinces..

Would there be a restriction if you're 21-25 for unlimited kms or travel to US?

Depending on where you live, you might want to look into renting in the US and just driving over there to pick it up
Oh, and check how long you are renting for.. We're renting a Toyota Sienna next week, and it was going to be $900 for two weeks.. but for an entire month, only $700... I figure we can find somewhere to put it for the two weeks we don't need it.
