I've been considering a pool for a couple years now and I like what I've seen with the fiberglass pools.

Does anyone have any recent experiences with fiberglass pools? recent quotes? comparison with gunite/concrete or steel / vinyl lined or any quotes on this?

Any inground pool installation experiences / recommendations would be great as well?

I'm not sure about installing a fiberglass pool in a clay substrate (GTA), we went with a steel/vinyl about three years ago. As for quotes, it's hard to say, what size were you considering ? I'd first recommend you to get at least three quotes for the installation try;

Pioneer Pools - steel/vinyl - budget $35k for just pool install
Robcon Pools - steel/vinyl - budget $35k as well
Solda Pools - gunite/concrete $$$ - budget $60-$70k

We had equivalent quotes from Pioneer/Robcon for a 18' x 38' humpback kidney. We decided on Pioneer due to it being a local shop (Oakville).

Thanks for pointing out about the clay ground conditions. I will have to inquire and find out more about this. I do plan to get several quotes on the different types since I haven't decided which type to go with yet.

I got one e-mail quote for a fiberglass pool, installation only, and it was for a 15 X 35 pool (this is about the size we are looking at) and it was $44K (incl. the basic items + sanitizer).

By the way, any comments regarding salt or chlorine sanitizers??

If anyone else has any comments / experiences, please share.

I too would like to find out more information about the fibreglass pools.

Thanks - since there are no experiences yet, perhaps there aren't many who have installed a fiberglass pool. I wonder how all these companies stay in business.

As for searching the forum, I have and I could only find older posts - looking for recent experiences / quotes.

If there's anyone else out there with an inground pool experience, please post.

We were actually told otherwise. Fibreglass pools work well here, and you can leave the water in them over the winter, install some wood edges and have a skating rink in the winter!

We considered them, but they do not (yet) come deep enough for diving safely.

Thanks for commenting ... you should look around again for a diving depth pool because I have seen the fiberglass pools up to 8' at one end - if this is what you're considering - however, not many designs.

We believe 8 feet is not deep enough for diving (even without a board) for safety's sake, which is why we walked away. We will likely go with a framed/lined pool....unless we can get a custom gunnite pool done within budget :cheesygri :cheesygri

With board 10-12ft is recommended.
w/o board 8ft is fine.

I was looking at fiberglass pools as well, I was told to ballpark $1100 to $1200 per foot installed plus decking, so a 14' x 30' pool would be 30K 'ish plus decking- keep in mind they are limited in width usually maxing out around 15'. As for the salt system question, definetly worth the cost - I'm new to the whole pool maintenance thing, but with salt there's really none except for the occasional vacuum.

For those still interested in a pool, got another e-mail estimate for fiberglass ... ranges from $25K to $60K depending on the size. I've asked for more information and will share once I have more details.

So anyone else get any recent quotes for pools, not necessarily fiberglass? I still haven't decided whether to go with fiberglass, vinyl/steel or concrete.

For those that have put a pool in recently in the GTA area, is it worth it? any recommended companies?

i got a quote last month from Simplypools.ca for 36,000$ for a 14 X30 foot pool with LED colorlogic light, salt water chlorinator, heater, and stone color coating for the entire shell. This included installation and delivery including craning the pool over my house. The guys at simplypools were very helpful!

we recently installed a 36X18 inground vinyl pool. Talking with my contractor, he stated that a lot of people have problems with them because of our climate. He's heard stories of them popping out of place, but I can't verify or confirm that this is the case of bad installation or what not, but it sort of makes sense to a point because of the clay we have and the weather (extreme cold/hot) that we experience throughout the year.

Just a thought before you go fibreglass.

thanks atc789 & r1lee for your replies

the quote from simplypools seems decent with what you got included

atc789 - did you decide on anything yet?

I'm still leaning towards fiberglass but wish I could find someone that has done it - most of those in my neighbourhood have done vinyl or concrete

still looking for more comments / opinions on any inground pool installations?

We havent decided on anything, we are considering moving because we were planning on some renovations and figured it may be cheaper to find another house. Also there is a place called "water world fiberglass pools" it is a US company but they supply Canada and they quoted me a price of 25,000$ but in this case you have to have the hole excavated, and concrete edge poured and you pretty much hire the contractors, but they will bring the pool from the states and assist with the install. If you are interested you can speak with a man by teh name of Jerry he deals with all Canadian customers.

thanks - no more independent contractors for me - would like to have it done by one company all at once - except for the landscaping
