Hope people don't mind me posting a "home improvement" question here.

Just wondering if any handy people here can help me with a lighting/wiring question:

I want to install wall light fixture in a room and have it controlled by a light switch that already controls another light.

The light fixture will be directly above the light switch, so I was thinking that I could run wire from light switch to the new fixture (running the wires behind the drywall). Would I just connect the wires to the existing connections at the switch? Or am I just going to burn my house down?

Thanks!

You need to find out how the switch connects to the light or vise versa. there could be other circuits in line with that one and just adding some wire to hook up a second light is not the proper way.

The way to do it is wire light 1 to light 2, then light 2 to the switch. You don't want both lights coming into the same switch.

That's the proper way, the less proper way would be to use a junction box.

The least proper way is what you've got in mind.

Here's a good way not to burn down your house (only $12.56):
