sprung

The decline in US visitors has really hurt Fallsview Casino. Starting July 9, travel for free to Niagara Falls with Safeway Tours. Valid Players Card Required. Must be 19+.

Phone 416-593-0593 to reserve a spot. Buses depart from various points/times in the GTA. NOTE - you don't have to gamble in the casino but you can't bring luggage on the bus. Great way to see the Falls and save $ on gas :)

Check this site (http://www.safewaytours.net/casinobus.html) for updated departure times.

Nice, they had a similar one with Tia pan for rama, but recently changed it from $5 to $10... thats hot though, hell I'd go for the buffet... My Grams lives near clifton hill too so this will save gas for visits!

excuse me for my naivete, but what is a player's card?

It's like a reward card. For example (since I only play slots), you put your card into the machine and depending on how much you put in the machine or how long you play (I forget which or if its based on both) you get points which you can cash in for money or comps.

I'm assuming it has to be a player's card from that specific casino? IOW, my players card from Caesers Windsor wouldn't work? That would be a fun thing to do for a day. I thought I read somewhere that some of these player cards work at all casinos. Does anybody know if there's any truth to this? I rarely go to the casino, so I'm not up to snuff on stuff like this.

I read a Tor Star article where someone tried to scam them but had to pay greyhound home - you have to use the card every hour for 5 hours - and you can't shop b/c there is not bags allowed.

The card tracks how long you stayed in the casino and if you did nothing then they won't let you go back... same with the free parking.

Is this new? I never had that before when I use to pay $5 to travel to and from fallsview. (pay $15 and get $10 chip money back, or something like that)

I reckon Safeway have no way of checking your card personally and they don't even have any device to scan it upon arrival.. ?

from what i remember when paying 5$ is that it says that you must stay a minimum of 5 hours (which is usually when ur bus makes its return trip i think) you cant leave before then. ie on another bus.

You have to stay at least 5 hours, you can come back with the same bus or a bus later (6 hours or so on) but not earlier than 5 hours.

I went over the long weekend and was declined the free parking since I only played less than $5 on slot machines within an hour. I figure that would be enough to prove that i actually played at the casino, but I guess it wasn't.

The tia pan and the greyhound have a portable swiper that comes on the bus at rama.

Btw, you don't NEED to gamble for free parking some of the times (I just flashed the card and was waved through)

Also, funny thing, for greyhound... toronto -> orillia is $25 bucks.... toronto -> casino rama is $9 bucks... they are the same stop... guess where I get off.... Nahhh just kidding, I actually enjoy going to the casino for a couple bucks.

I know Rama doesn't mind not having the card. But I heard that Fallsview cares. They will charge you more or something. I had that happen to me the first time I went with the bus and I had to pay extra b/c i dindt have a card.

yes, they are EXTREMELY strict on this.. no bags allowed, and no card must pay $30 fare. Its all computerized now.

Remeber you still need to go to the pickup location, whether by car or transit.
If you are driving yourself to the pickup location, you cannot park there for the whole day. My friend parked in First Markham and when he got back from the Falls, he received a $20 dollar ticket from the parking enforcement guys.

Maybe it has changed now, but the first time I went with Safeway to Niagara Falls (last year) I did not have a player's card. On the bus, they collected $30 from everyone and when you got off the bus, they gave you a coupon to redeem for $25 in the casino (you could take cash if you wanted).

The bus stopped at both the older and the newer casino. If you didn't have the player's card, you just went and got one at the desk and then you went and were able to redeem the $25 without problem regardless of whether you had the card to begin with or not. I do not know if that has changed.

Also, I have gone a few times and it is true about bags. Purses and a small knapsack were allowed, but no luggage or large items. You do have to stay 5 hours in Niagara Falls, but can stay longer as long as there is space on another bus. We were told the ticket was valid for 24 hours. Some people in front of us were staying overnight and coming back in the morning with the same ticket.

Most times I have gone, I have played the slot machines a bit, but never spend more than $20 (just for fun). Once I did not gamble at all. I just went in a redeemed the $25 and walked around Niagara Falls and had no trouble returning on the bus. Someone mentioned it is all computerized now, so I do not know if this is different now.

yah it'll still work fine, tell them you lost yours, what happens is you pay the 30 dollars upfront, go into the casino and get them to make you another card, then come back downstairs to the safeway tour booth, they check your number (that you're not a new member), and will re-emburse you the money. My mom did this before and it worked out fine. The thing is, now it's for free and not 5 bucks, so i dunno if they give you back all $30. it's best if you call and ask.

Booked 2 spots to go to Niagara today, and indeed it is for free. The lady at the reservations actually let me know, but I surprised her by cutting her off and saying "yeah it's free today right?" and she was so shock I knew already! Thanks OP!!! :)

As for getting a new membership, I think it's best to call and ask how the procedures work, cause they are very strict about this whole member card thing!

You can sign up online for the card and pick it up at the casino with ID, and I believe this is ok to reimburse you the money. I know I read up 2 weeks back when these buses would charge you $15 or something if you didn't have a card and you get reimbursed.

That is FALSE. You need the Players card once you get on the BUS. Its scanned once you board. There's no way around paying $30 for the first trip. They are wise to all the trips now.

They guarantee a spot for you on a set return bus, but if other buses are full, they can reject your request to return at a specific time. But I have yet to go on a fully loaded bus to fallsview..

And last time I went (maybe half a year ago?), they were no longer doing drop offs/pickups at the old casino. They just lost the partnership I guess, they don't even have free casino buses which runs between the 2 as well.

Its so wasteful to see all the Casino buses running every hour. I see 7-8 of them, Taipan, Safeway, JCL, etc just on my way to work each morning.. and they are all EMPTY besides the driver and guide. Thats a lot of fuel each one burns... I wonder how they make money off the routes.

I'm sure the tour companies aren't actually losing money as they're probably paid by the casino and the money we use to pay probably went straight to the casino as well. This seems to be just a way for the casino to advertise. All the little extra business earned from people riding it is only tiny portion compare to what the casino really make.

bobobee
Jul 10th, 2008, 03:10 PM
i just found this out yesterday, but they track how much money you lose and win. The tour bus gets a portion of the money you've LOST.
so haha, i guess they really don't want you to win when you go the casino.

when they say "hope you win more." before you get off the bus, they're lying! hahah

And plus casino gives them money for the number of people they bring to the casino too...so they earn quite a bit i think.

nah they try to keep track of your win loss record on the tables. when you cash in, it goes into their computer system. when you colour up to leave, they enter the amount you walk off with when they close their system.

FYI all the charity casinos like Brantford charity casino, point edward or even the slot places you can use the OLG winner's circle card.

Casino rama is coporate and has their own players card, Casino Niagara and Fallsview share the same players card and Ceasars Windsor has their own players card too from MGM. Port Perry is a charity casino too but they have their own players card for slots and does not apply to table games only.

Also I have not gamble before at the casino and just park my car there and when I leave, they swipe my card and I am given free parking. Maybe because I gamble a lot there so on the times I do not gamble, they just let it go but on some trips to fallsview or casino niagara,I did not even gamble a single cent

i don't know if you've ever seen sometimes the pit bosses come to the table, then type in how much money you have left on the table into their machine once in a while. or they sometimes change the amount that you're betting (if more/less). of course it's not accurate at all, because you could put chips into your pocket, or cash in 100 and it won't be put into the machine. but they do try to keep track of it as much as they can.

If you have no card, you pay $30.00 on the bus. $15.00 (don't know where it goes), $10.00 (casino coupon, which you can play or redeem for cash), $5.00 (for the bus ride). There is no buffet included you just get $2.00 off the buffet when you get your card.

I think if you have no card, you don't get any coupon back. With the new pricing it is $20 round trip with nothing back. First time going there sucks without a card, because there's no way escaping their fees, unless you take a different tour bus, or drive there yourself to get the card.
The bus ride now costs $0 for members with cards and $20 without card. i just got the new schedule with the pricing on it.

Regarding checking ID, I remember they ask me for a photo ID for identification/verification of your age, but not sure if they will ask you if you already have a casino card.

yeah the schedule of where the bus picks up, the different times, and when the bus leaves. If you look under 25 of just look really young, they will check your ID. My mom has tried using one of her friend's card to get cashback (long time ago) before and it was fine. But now I've realized they have a new rule that you need to show picture ID to the cashier cages if you are to redeem any cash coupons there.
But there's no coupons for the bus, so all you really need to get past is the bus hosts, which could be done...haha if they catch you...say "oh crap, I accidently brought my friends/brothers/dads card! see if they let you off the hook. Probably, and hopefully they won't care.

^, thanks for scanning up the locations and times.

Yea, if my friend can get away without paying anything to board the bus, isn't he safe? Or would he have to pay the casino if caught with the wrong card? How about if you had no card, do you pay the bus driver or at the casino?

Btw, I also found another bus tour place:

http://www.andreacasinotours.com/

Seems like you pay $10 if you have PAC or $20. In either case you would get a $10 coin credit or $15 food depending on the day you go.

lol heh, i actually just used the free bus service today. its very ez actually to use someone's else's card.....there were only 2 times when i had to show my card
1. to get the boarding ticket, they ask for PAC card and they write the info down.
2. before i got off the bus to the casino, a casino employee asked for my photo id and scanned my PAC card....the older ppl just walked off without showing anything.

this deal was said to end in mid August where we have to start paying again.

so if you look under 25, you'd be screwed at the casino i guess. How much is it after aug 15? $5?

Oh I made up some BS story about how the name was diff..b/c of english vs chinese name.

Then she said that she would have to verify it through the system at the casino..but at that point I didn't know that it would still be free if you sign up on the spot once you get there.

So once we got off the bus we just came clean and said we lost our card and needed to re-register for one.

It worked out after that.

this is how the bus works.

-no bags/luggage allowed
-you need a players card for it to be free. if you dont have a players card its $15. if u had a players card and lost it, its $15 but when u get to the casino they will verify that u had one and give back ur $15
-minimum stay is 5 hours, max stay is 48 hours
-when you arrive there they will swipe ur card and put u in the system
-u techincally dont have to gamble once ur there, but if u keep coming back and theres no activity on ur card, then they will say something

Ceasar's Windsor is a Harrah's property ...

Lately I've been going 3 days/wk, & it's always 1.5 hr each way. Only once was it 2 hr, & that was on a busy long weekend. I take the downtown bus.

You don't need to stay 5 hrs with Safeway. 1 hr before you want to leave, go to the desk with the Chinese workers (the 1st desk you see when you leave the bus). The desk has a list of times. Tell them you want to be on the standby list for a certain time. Priority to those who are leaving at their correct time (eg their pass says 11:30 pm, they have priority over those on standby for the 11:30 pm bus).

You mean if you went there with someone in a car, but you want to take the bus back? In that case, no, it's not free. It's $15 for a 1-way trip home on Safeway, $20 for a 2-way trip with no Players Card.

I used this service today for my first time. Took the 3:10 bus from DAYS INN at Yonge and Carlton...paid the $5.00 on the bus and got a boarding pass ticket for the 11:30pm departure bus.... its $5.00 with a Players Card or $25 without one. Bus arrived at Fallsview Casino at about 5:00pm. As we were leaving the bus, a Casino worked swiped our Players Card...we didnt have to get it swiped again when we boarded for departure. My friend and I walked around the mall and inside the casino played some slots and ate at the Grand Buffet All You Can Eat which is about $17 each and included a drink ) with a Players Card ..and decided to see if we can catch the 7:30pm departure bus... the bus staff took our 1130pm boarding pass tickets and gave us a standby ticket for 730pm...which was no problem as long as seats were available... Thank goodness for that because I don't know what i would have done for another couple hours.

The low bus fare is supposed to be an incentive to go to the casino and gamble, not for a trip. They don't allow luggage or large back packs. A purse, even a large size one is allowed (at least when I went - my purse is fairly large and was no problem - it was just my regular purse, wasn't staying overnight).

i'm not from mississauga, but when we pass by and pick up people, they park in front of the tim hortons. that's where the bus picks you up anyway! and tim hortons is opened 24 hours, and i think they're used to having patrons park their cars there all the time.

Not possible. Sign up for PAC must be done in person at the casino so that they can verify your government issued ID and then give you the card.

Used to be they'd charge more without a PAC but then you could get it back once you showed them your new PAC. Call Safeway though to confirm that's still the case. $5 is only if you have a PAC.

They do not care you can even sleep in the casino hotel or stroll in the falls and come back when it pick up time.
