Are you sure you need to buy one? Home Depot and grocery stores both rent larger carpet shampooers for 24/48-hour periods.
(As a data point, I owned the Bissell Green Machine several years ago and HATED it.)

Try RCSS for the smaller models. Good prices, good return policy if necessary, and a selection of a few brands.
It doesn't pay to rent these: once you need them a few times, the one you buy has paid for itself.

I would recommend renting...cheap....just make sure that you don't pay for the store cleaning solution. You can make your own for about a tenth of the price

+1 ^ .....my Bissell Green Machine never worked properly either, and broke down altogether within months of buying it...total waste of $100 to Canadiantire.
I wish I had just rented the shampooer from the grocery store, as grassgreen suggests. Storage is a problem too....takes up too much valuable space in a small place.

Weird, I just finished doing the carpets on the upstairs of a reasonably large house, and the results have been very good with the Green Machine.
Yes, its torture to use such a small machine on the amounts of carpet that I'm cleaning, but no, I'm not finding anything wrong with the machine.
BTW, just using liquid Tide with Febreze as the cleaner. No issues with foaming at all, although running the concentration of liquid tide in place of the Bissell fluid is way too much.
