Replacing battries for my smoke alarm

Yesterday I though of replacing batteries for my smoke alarm. but I didnt find any opening to that device to replace batteries, so I am assuming this model do not need battries! am I correct? My home is constructed last year Feb, are new models of smoke alarm coming with no batteries? Right now I am at work, as soon as I go home I will write the alarm model name. So that some one can suggest me.

they could be hard wired....pop the cap off and see

When I was living in an apartment when I twist the alarm the top cap only comes off. I tried twisting it in my home and whole unit came off, and there are power cables connected at back side. I was little confused and put it back. I was little worried that I may be killing the unit if i try to pop the cap.

it may be hard wired, or it may be a detector that runs on a 10 year lithuim battery

are the "power cables" connected in the ceiling? if so its hard wired

also how did you know what batteries to buy if you dont even know if its battery operated?

Yes, that you may be correct, I saw a sticker at back side saying I need to replace whole unit on some date, that is apporx 10 years from the date I bought this home.

Last time when I saw inside of the smoke alarm in the old apartment there are I think one/two AA batteries.

I have so many AA, AAA batteries right now, I read some where that it is good idea to replace batteries every year. If I have lithium batteries then I do not have to worry.

In my home we have three alarms Basement-First floor-Second Floor, if I push test button in one alarm all three will go off. If I remember correctly there are three wires going into ceiling from the alarm, and I do remember saying a sticker something like .....A/C Connected... I will update Once I go home, in 30mins.

you are supposed to change your batteries twice a year

but if your alarm is lithuim they say you should replace the unit every 10 years

regardless of lithium or alkaline, you are supposed to install new alarsm every 10 years

by the way my unit name is Kidde, model number is 1235CA, at the back of unit there are three wires red, white and black. and there is a warning sign saying "AC Power Present". So I guess I need to replace unit after 9years, and no need to change any batteries every year. sweet.
