how does it compare with the 599 dell vostro 1310?
This comes with Bluetooth and Vista Home Premium. Those are the only significant differences I can see. Thats a $20 and $30 upgrade on the Dell. Is it worth the $50 for the brand difference is totally up to you.

made in China version.
What's wrong with made in Chine? Most PC under 1500 are made in China (even Hp's).
This LG also has HDMI out adn comes with Vista Premium ($30 upgrade for Dell's). Dell vostro 1310 does not support Blue tooth - Vista version.
If size is nto too much of a concern. this is a good laptop $699 (HP dv6744ca from FS)

All of the laptops (Acer, Dell, HP, Toshiba, and even Sony) that I currently owned or used to owned were made in China. Even my PS3 and XBox 360 are made in China. The durability of your laptop is based on its company's quality assurance and quality management

There are LG notebooks made in Korea.
Supposedly: Made in Korea > Made in China

well the HDMI port is rather useless since the video chip is a x1250 which doesnt do HD decoding, so all the decoding is done on the CPU which is 1.66ghz core 2 duo which is no where fast enough for 1080p, but only good enough for 720p. you need at least 2ghz C2D for 1080p decoding.

LG has a 2-year warranty, correct me if i am wrong,
but i am pretty sure
When I bought my LG laptop, it had 1 year international warranty. after the 1 year is up, you get another 2 years of within canada... so 3 years in total.
not too sure if its changed now... LG support is pretty good, my lcd screen's inverter blew out after 2 years, sent it in... they air puro me box and packaging, got it back 2 weeks after with new bezel, lcd panel and cables.

Here is the actual warranty info from LG. The warranty length has nothing to do with Futureshop, and everything to do with the model series.

Actually what I am saying is their are 2 separate types of LG notebooks as stated earlier these low end models are made in China (not complaining since 97% of all my stuff is made there except my snow tires, Global chair and Wooden desk) But people get mistaken by oh it an LG laptop therefore it is made in Korea with the higher end stuff and quality wise .... these sub 18xx laptops are made in China. Not the same effort is put in for these models verse these counterparts made in Korea.
I am not China bashing I am just informing you people that do not know anything about LG laptops since there seems to be quite a few, and if you think I am China bashing - go screw yourself.

Really??? A sub 18xx, low end model isn't as high quality as a more expensive, higher end model? Thank you detective coltage!
Great deal btw. Too bad it's OOS.

Lol?
I think the $599 Dell deal is much better, you have the option of getting a bigger battery for $20, screen resolution with "Tru Life", and the option of adding a graphics card for another $100. On top of that, the FSB on the Dell is better....the only downside is the smaller hard drive (wouldn't matter for some people?)

country of origin may be impt, but i think another impt factor is the quality of the parts inside the machine....

Reviews are not good for this HP on FS's website. There are 3 positive comments, but a total of 174 reviewers gave it an average rating of 1.98 out of 5. WOW! Rarely do you see anything rated that poorly. Tough to tell why since FS only puts in the positive comments.
