Zellers: Work Bench $6.99 was $99.99

I was at Zellers at Trinity Common in Brampton and found this work bench (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=2416220#Customer+Product+Rev iews) for $6.99. I think this should be across the country as there was a regular sale sign (not clearance) on the shelf saying that it was on sale for $9.97 until July 4 with the regular price listed as $99.99. The box was yellow stickered at $79 so I suspect that is why I got the extra $3 (30% off). Yellow stickered hardware is 30% off this week. This could be a price error as the pre-printed shelf tag said $79.97 but they had a piece of paper covering the first 7 so it read $9.97. I only saw this correction because I pulled out the tag to confirm that it was in fact this work bench. It did scan at $6.99. Don't ask me about the quality as I haven't opened it yet but for $6.99, you can't go wrong. There was one more open box at Trinity Common.

CheapCat, can you give us the sku from the receipt or box? I went to the Zellers in Coquitlam and there was a work bench which was 99 regular on sale for 79.99 but it didn't scan any lower than that. It was the only one I could find there, so I dunno if you're talking about a different one or it's just not scanning at 6.99 out west.

These will probably be YMMV as many stores will not have stock, if OP could post sku then it would help and people could call in advance. Also did the shelf label scan at $6.99 or the box?? That might be the key. These look like the same ones I saw on clearance over a year ago.


And yes... unless stated by law they will be open. Zellers is only closed one day a year now (Christmas Day).

Have you, seen how thin metal studs are for interior walls? same type of material used here. Its fine for its intended purpose.

Granted its not an industrial grade bench - the wood is a type of particle board - but for the average home owner its fine, Especially at $6.99!!

Actually I was at Zellers to pick up the Rubbermaid Configurations kit when I found this. Thanks kiiaal, I got the closet organizer and this.

Zellers does alot of unbelievable clearances. A couple of months ago I was walking through Zellers when I saw a rack of items with a sign saying $.05. Everyone just kept walking by. I started looking through things and slowly people started looking. But no one believed that things were 5 cents. One lady even said that it must be 5 cents off the ticketed price. Eventually, a staff member confirmed the price and said to another employee that they had marked things down to 5 cents again. I picked up 55 items for 5 cents. There were mainly scrapbooking and stationary items including leather scrapbooks that had been reduced to $20 and a Fiskars cutting tool that had been reduced to $50, all for 5 cents each. I paid $2.75 for items that based on the clearance sticker prices would have been $550. Who knows what the original prices would have added up to. Before people complain that I bought 55 things, some were small items like stickers and I gave most away to my nieces and nephews for crafts. Others will be used to make gifts. I am not selling anything.

As I stated in the original post, the shelf sale sign had said $79.97 but store staff (I say store staff because who else carries a perfectly cut out piece of paper) had placed a piece of paper over the first 7 to make the price $9.97. The price sign that they use for flyer sale items, not a small shelf tag, was what caught my attention. Since none of the price scanners in the store were working, I just went to cash and the cashier scanned the box at $6.99. She was surprised at the price as was I at the extra $3 off. Given the correction to the pre-printed sign, I'm sure staff were aware of the price.

Beside that it says "Workbench" and underneath that it says: "3 shelves, 18" deep, 42" wide, 60" high". Then there is a picture of the bench in the middle of the box. It is the exact same bench as in the WalMart link that I posted.

Note there was another bench there that had been reduced to $79 (I believe) so that may have been the one you saw.

The box says that it can handle 1000 lbs evenly distributed. I was previously looking at one of those cheapo Jobmate work benches when it was on sale for $50 so for $6.99 I think this is a much better deal, not to mention this looks like a better bench.

I too notice, at times, they have decent stuff on clearance. By far, the Rubbermaid was the best. I'm now looking at their electronic humidifiers. So I dont think its a pricing error the local store in my area has been clearing out there hardware for a while now. FYI the wood part is particle board so it won't do well if it gets wet even if you replace the top. Of course, you could replace all the particle board, $7 is still a great price for the frame.

Just checked all of the 6 stores in Winnipeg. None in stock anywhere. I can confirm on the deal tho, couse it says on there computer it was going for $9.99 + the 30% off which would come to $6.99+tax total.

I also checked to see if i can get a raincheck, but no luck... since this item wont be back instock within the next 3months from what there computer system says. This might mean its discontinued and probably is.

I got it from Ottawa's Bayshore Mall. It was the last one on the shelf, not sure if they have anymore.

EVEN BETTER, i went back to Zellers and went straight to customer service desk to get the price adjusted. First Customer Service girl called the Brampton Trinity Store and wanted a word of mouth confirmation from the hardware dept. My luck, the person there didn't even see it on the floor and dont' know the price. So the CS girl wanted to brush me off by a lame excuse that they can't confirm the price so they won't want to adjust it. :mad:

So as a fellow RFD member, I ask her to find me another Customer Service who was more patient and smart. I asked the 2nd CS girl to call back the same store and just simply ask them to type in the SKU number on the casher to confirm. IT WAS THAT SIMPLE!

With abit of effort! SUCCESS! price adjusted and got the work bench at 6.99+tax. :lol:

Good idea. I should have done that with the Rubbermaid Configurations closet organizers that were selling for much less in other Zellers stores like Hamilton. Not remembering the price that the OP in that thread paid, I argued to get the extra 30% off saying a friend in Hamilton got that. I always thought Zellers had the same prices in all their stores or at least the stores in the same province.
