if it's an LG panel that's a pretty good deal

if you're looking for a 1080p 50" plasma that's definately one that you should look at(again, if it is an LG panel)

30000:1 contrast and USB port makes me wonder if its a Samsung rebranded.

Looks like a decent price.

I'm thinking it's more likely 30000:1 dynamic contrast.... as that's what LG's would be.. they also have USB 2.0 ports on their tvs

if it's dynamic 30000:1, then it's really a shame as this model just came out recently. Most recent plasma panels have 1M:1 dynamic contract.

That would be the REAL contrast. The contrast ratio for most new plasmas (2008 models) is 30000:1 real or 1000000:1 dynamic.

that may be the advertised "true" contrast

but in reality the contrast wont be even remotely close to that

well they clearly don't make their own brand. it's quite likely the panel is a 30,000 contrast. That's average for 2008 plasma.

LCD flat out sucks, period. It doesn't matter what you do with them, LED, local dimming, it will never match the individual pixel control that plasma has.

Both have their issues.
In my mind, for image quality, black levels, colour accuracy etc:

CRT>OLED>LCOS/HDILA>DLP>PLASMA>all the other crap out there...

These would be highest end of each category.

Yes, I think the highest end DLP chips still beat plasma... but that's a personal preference. Plus with LED and laser, DLP still holds it's own.
I'd accept a viewpoint that the highest end plasma would beat dlp... :)

I think you got your LCOS/HDILA/DLP mixed up there...
none of those technologys beat plasma in black levels/color accuracy

apparently according to post#1 it IS an LG panel...!!
if we can read films from usb and sd slot, then its def worth it, otherwise will stick with the sanyo from walmart..!

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1041161

EDIT: correction; nothing on AVS forums indicates it is an LG panel,

EDIT2: can only view still pix via card reader (Media card reader supports viewing still images directly on your TV; compatible with Secure Digital, MultiMediaCard and xD-Picture card formats)

I'm pretty sure the usb and sd slot doesn't support video. Only JPEG and MP3 instructions in the manual.

wow.. i was actually thinkin of getting a 42" or a 46" lcdtv for my apt. but looking this plasma which woudl be huge at 50" and for less than the 46" i was looking at the sony store .. idk how u can go wrong.

so far been good reviews i've seen. anybody find any more accurate +/- reviews on this baby?!

i was thinking of a 46" sony tv with a discount to make it around 2000ish~

ofc buyin sony = payin more with name brand. but if this is an lg panel that seems like many of u guys say it to be.

wouldnt this deal beat that last olevia lcd tv that was on FD?

personally I'd say any good deal on a plasma beats an LCD deal because LCDs aren't worth paying for. They are easily teh worst tvs out there

i'm guessing now... to stab my wallet with the insigna 50" at bestbuy post... or go to the the walmart 47" sanyo with 720p.
for $300ish difference. and 3" diff..

the sony bravio one did look sweet. i guess i have yet to see the plasma.

ppl giving mjixed reviews with the sanyo walmart deal. i am hoping that insigna at bestbuy is worth it with good reviews~

How about getting an actual TV and not one out of some hobos trash can? If I saw an Insignia in someones house, I would fall to the ground laughing.

Drop by BB and have a look, it seems (solely personal opinion) color/contrast..are okay/acceptable for that price however, noticed its refresh rate is just not as fast as the 120MHz LCD next right after. Has any1 has similar feeling or just my eyes only ? So what exactly refresh rate Plasma offers or does we talking about refesh rate (maybe some other terms) with Plasma ?

Just a minor correction, LCDs are only up to 120Hz, not 120Mhz.

Have you ever seen OLED? No way a CRT is better for picture quality.

At CES every year since Sanyo showed OLED in 2001 there is always a crowd around the new OLED sets. That tech is amazing.
