Its REALLY hot if you're an Nvidia fan or plan on grabbing a GTX 260 (by far lowest price i've seen). Its a decent deal if you're just looking for a video card because GTX 260 really should be priced around $250 since in almost all benchmarks, it perform worst than 4870.

For a card that has an MSRP of $400, that's a really good deal. Too bad it's out of stock.

I would really recommend getting the ATI 48XX series this time over the nvidia 2XX series. The ATI price/performance has been proven better as of what i have read in other forums.

Except @ 40% off, this deal puts the GTX 260 on the performance curve with 48xx series.

4870 > GTX 260 > 4850 so it fits right around the price of the curve.

Holy ****....

If they drop the 280 to 230.xx

what is the price going to be on the 9800GTX or what ever it is called next month ...

this forces retailers to make the 8600 around 60 bucks and the 8800GT about 80ish ... till they run out.

I believe this is just a guesstimate and the price will be higher once they have stock. It was the same thing with the Asus GTX280.

what's the deal with the strange memory size of nvidia cards?

At the prices that ATI is putting out Nvidia has to adjust their prices.. a good ol' fashion price war would be nice

This is an excellent price for this card. Regardless of any claims that hd4850may be somewhat better bang for the buck, the thread is not about ATI's cards. People who want BBFB are likely to go for 4850. For people who want specifically gtx260, this is a killer price for this card right now, despite the likelyhood that in a few months it'll be well under $200.

It doesn't suck, ATI just is slightly better at AA. I agree though that ATI has the upper hand this time for the best card for the money (4870).

I'm running a 1920x1080 monitor, and if I didn't have two 8800gt's in SLI I would definetly be buying the 4870 over the gtx260. The only problem though is I would need to get a new motherboard in the process because CF doesn't run well on a SLI board. Since this is the case, most people looking to upgrade may be forced to choose the gtx260 instead.

In all honesty though, all of the video cards are priced properly so you can't really go wrong with whatever you choose. That includes the 8800gt for $100 ;)

For those with a SLI board, nvidia is the most obvious choice given you have partial commitment to using a chipset designed by nvidia.

One of the side benefits of AMD's cards is that it's CF is usable on intel chipsets which the majority have or will buy.

Imo, the best value is 8800GT SLI assuming no compatibility issues and $110-130 price.

At $230 and if stock was available, the geforce 260 would be on par with 4xxx series for performance value. It just seems a bit odd it's priced that way. Then again there's so many threads for the 4850 for $160-180. There's been some serious price depreciation from MSRP so soon after they have been released.

Well as far as i know its just not the price but the ATI 48XX cards consume less power and generate less heat compared to their rival nvidia 2XX.

Correct me if i am wrong guys. Thanks.

Correct for 4850, but 4870 uses more power (and therefore produces more heat) than the GTX 260.

The 4850 runs hotter as it has a single slot HSF vs. the 4870 dual slot HSF.

P.s. This price error has been like that for almost a week now. OOS

The temperature it runs at does not correlate to the amount of heat it actually generates. In this case, it simply means the heatsink sucks.

The power draw dictates how much heat it generates, and the 4850 is among the lowest of the bunch in this regard.

What's important to most users is the card's operating temps and the 4850 runs pretty hot under load and yes the 4850 heatsink is not great. As far as how/why heat is generated, it's more complicated than The power draw.
Back on topic, the 260 is a great deal at $229 but this price error is likely impossible to get. Good luck to anyone who tries.

It's funny how a pricing error only brings it to a competitive price level.

Now if only AMD could only bring a cpu to compete with intel
