Hello guys I need to start researching on which laptop to fit my prority soon... and i dont know where to start? Furthermore, I dont wanna waste gas to go out and look around so maybe i should get some tips from you guys here. Well to make some of our lives easier I am mostly looking for:
- Core2Duo Min. 2.0 + ghz.
- 3-4 GB ram
- min. 250gb HD
- dedicated video card, non of that integrated ****. =)
- not a really big screen, 15.4 and under should be good.
- my budget is reasonable from 1-2G's
Ultimately, this laptop is for university and sometimes when my friends have a Lan I can bring this to game. and I am the type of guy that likes top of the line stop where "i can pay alittle more" to get a bit better :) even though im not a hard-gamer i still would like to enjoy the High Specs. oh and Brands Matter :)
Thanks for the Help :D

Hey guys I'm looking for the same too, just to the specs requirement I want to add Wireless N, Bluetooth 2.0, and maybe a Fingerprint Reader?
Oh and I'm not as rich as moneybags here, my budget is $1000 for the laptop MAX (tax not included).

ThinkPad X series.
they're okay, but the video card on think pads suck.
I'd go for a Dell XPS M1330(13'3 screen) or the M1530(15'4)

They can be easily configured to have everything you want. I just configured the 15.4 inch one to roughly your specs (added ram and HDD capacity) and it is at 899 right now. Hell, with your budget you could easily throw in a blueray drive, bluetooth, upgrade to wireless N, and get a better battery.

Its been my experience that students are notoriously 'hard' on their laptops. I mean, compared to business users, students use their laptops a lot more, they carry them around, etc.
Personally, I'd suggest that you look at the business laptops instead of the consumer-oriented lines such as the Vostro/XPS/Inspiron/Pavilion/etc. For instance, look at the Dell Latitude D630/D830, Lenovo Thinkpad T61, HP 6910p/8510p, etc., instead.
You can get a pretty decent Latitude D630 or D830 configuration in the $1300-$1400 ballpark if you shop around. And they're much more rugged laptops than the XPS units.. Those HP's are nice too, as are the Lenovos, and they'll definitely have a much better chance of lasting for 4 or 5 years with the kind of use that a typical student throws at them...

get a 3 year warranty on that and you'll be fine.
applecare works best though. Dell has horrible support.
or, get a $1000 laptop and get another $1000 laptop 2 years later.

Dell has horrible support.
I've never had any problems with Dell support. There is a world of difference, though, between Dell's support for 'consumers', and Dell's 'business' support. "Consumer" support is outsourced to India, whereas 'business' support is provided by North American natively English speaking people with good computer knowledge.
So part of buying a 'business' laptop is gaining access to the better quality support network if you run into a problem.

The .com site is US-based, and the pricing is in US dollars. .ca is Canada-based and pricing in CAD$.
The least expensive way to acquire Dell gear is usually through eBay or third party distributors, and *not* off their website. For laptops, buying directly from Dell can be up to 50% more expensive, in my experience, directly, as opposed to through 3rd party vendors.

Could you recommend some good 3rd party vendors besides ebay?
