View Full Version : Sound stuttering when surfing the net

Don't know if anyone else has this problem but whenever I'm listening to music or watching something on WMP/vlc and I'm surfing the net at the same time the sound will stutter whenever a page starts loading. This happens with both IE and FF.
I'm running onboard sound as I'm not a big sound guy, just need the basics. I've downloaded the latest drivers and such.
specs:
cpu - q6700
mb - dg33tl
vid - 8800gt 512
8gb ram
vista ultimate 64
hdd - 2 sata, 1 ide (stuttering happens regardless of drive)
Any ideas as it's driving me nuts and on the verge of tossing the son-of-a-***** out the window.

Had this same problem recently with a much older PC... turned out the hard drive (IDE) was stuck in PIO mode instead of DMA, and getting it back to DMA solved the problem.

Yeah for older PC this situation happens if your HDD is not running DMA.
Check here.
Right click My computer -> Manage.
Go to Device Manager
Inside IDE-ATAPI controllers's Properties, check if Primary/Secondary IDE Channels are running DMA or PIO

This only happens when surfing the net tho. It does not happen at any other times. For instance I can be downloading (from newsgroups via grabit, so it has to decode), listening to music using winamp and playing supreme commander at the same time with no stuttering. But as soon as I open up IE/FF stutter stutter stutter.
And what's wrong with the vid card?? I don't ever play first person shooters...and as long as I can play hd movies/clips I'm fine. :)

This is a pretty new system and regardless of running stuff off the ide or sata drives I get the same thing.

Tho this idea is stupid, but it worked for someone else's computer.
Uninstall all those "updated" drivers, and install the old ones from the CDs that came with your hardware.
Also, couldn't hurt to check if it's really running on PIO (Even for new computers)

Well still have the damn problem.
IDE drive is running in DMA mode and reverted back to original drivers but still no luck.
