My wife called Rogers yesterday, we want to switch from the home phone to VOIP service, they told her this is not possible, because "it's a different platform". If I am able to move it to another voip provider like vonage, how can I not move it within rogers??

Has anyone done this before? I got a feeling this guy was just plain stupid.

Is your existing Home Phone the original Rogers/Sprint landline service? (There is no Rogers box sitting in your basement to which your house phone line(s) connect.) If so, they are somewhat correct.

The *new* Rogers Home Phone (VoIP) requires the phone adaptor box.

I have no idea why they wouldn't convert you to the new Home Phone. (P.S. Rogers will never refer to there Home Phone service as VoIP!)

(There was a service called Rogers Internet Phone service which was offered by Rogers Telecom, but this may not exist anymore. This too is/was a VoIP service but instead of using the Rogers network to route calls, it uses the public internet, more like Vonage/Primus.)

Hmmm I was just looking at the rogers website and it appears the service we wanted isn't there anymore. Why didn't they tell my wife that last night. We were suppose to be switched a couple months back but never received the hardware and we forgot about it after our vacation.
