This camera kicks so much ass, I had one before i gave it to my father. You're going to love the fact that the lens is a 28mm wide angle lens as opposed to most other manufacture's 35mm. It's very solidly built and very handsome. It's physically larger than the popular SD series, but it has all the manual functions you'd want that are missing in the SD series. The Sxx series of cameras represents Canon's best technologies put into one small and tidy package.
This camera would be a great backup for times when carrying along an SLR would be inappropriate. It's bigger than the SD series, but it's not a huge brick at all. It's also a good choice for those who are not quite ready for SLR's but want to learn how to use advanced manual options. Or you could leave it in auto mode and let the camera do the hard work for you.
It's got an optical viewfinder as well, when you want to conserve battery life. Even when the 2.5" LCD is on, the battery life is amazing.
