I applied to renew my existing passport this week (Monday) - did the online application and delivered the forms to Passport office in Mississauga - where I didn't have to wait more then 5 mins
Received a new passport today - 4 days later - and there was no rush or urgency required !
Well done to a government office !

Props to those folks.
I used to work in the Gatineau office in Ottawa and there were a lot of dedicated and hard-working people there. It may sound like an oxymoron and I know people like to bash government workers at every opportunity but you have to realize that we had to come up to speed with the US requirements and we did what we had to do and then some.
I have since moved on, so did some of the members in my team but that was definitely a good time in my life.

I think that your quick service was due to the fact that it's not busy these days. My friend in Vancouver says that his office is so dead that he relies on emails to keep him entertained :cheesygri

I did the same thing and got it in 6 days, to bad we have to do this every 5 years. I guess this is how the government makes it's money.

Very impressive for a government office to actually complete anything in a timely manner

I applied and received my renewed passport all in a matter of a week, which I thought was impressive. The guy at the office encouraged me to pay for the extra $10 pick-up at office option because I was travelling within 3 weeks, but I'm glad I didn't!

I just did 4 (new) passports for the family at the Whitby location. The line up was about 60 people long on that Saturday morning . I thought, Oh *%@# 15 min later i was done, and a week later i had all my passports in the mail.
I never saw a line move so fast, and after the first line you had to wait for a teller/both i never had a chance to sit, My number was called right away!
Awesome.
Great office in Whitby!

$10 does seem a waste right now as they are so fast

I needed to get my passport a few months back (not renew, but to get one from scratch). I completed the online application, which took about 30mins or so, and then went to the North York passport office (supposedly the busiest). The pre-screeners did a quick check on the papers and sent me to a special lineup which was empty. I was in and out within 10mins tops, and the dirty looks I got from the people waiting were great.

Passports are so quick nowadays. Now if they can only get their citizenship process done faster that would be great. There is one office in the Maritimes and it takes 6 months for you to get a new one if you ever lose it and need a new one.

I remember a couple of years ago when I submitted my passport application (the online application was the longest part of the process.) I literally walked into the passport office building at Sheppard and Yonge I was immediately at the counter (noone else in line.) People (who did not do the online application) were giving me cut eye and were wondering who I slept with to get my number called right away. They were all shocked as I entered the big room where everyone was sitting, my number was called.
Submitted on Friday afternoon around 3pm, got it in the mail on Wednesday.
